Taabinga Homestead
Taabinga Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at 7 Old Taabinga Road, Haly Creek, South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1846 to 1864. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. The homestead is the main building of the 318 acre Taabinga Station, and now operates as a homestay, providing bed and breakfast accommodation to tourists, as well as regular farm tours. History The Taabinga run was originally taken up by the Haly brothers in the 1840s and the main residence was developed during the 1840s and 1850s. Most of the outbuildings on the homestead site were built during the 1890s and early 1900s when Arthur Youngman was owner of the property. The explorations of Henry Stuart Russell in the Burnett district during the early 1840s mark a watershed in the pastoral history of Queensland. Haly Creek, Queensland
Haly Creek is a rural locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. In the Haly Creek had a population of 136. Boonyouin is a neighbourhood in the locality (). Geography Haly Creek flows from the south-west to the north of the locality where it enters the Stuart River, which forms the western boundary of the locality. The land is mostly flat at about 450 metres above sea level but with elevations rising to 520 metres. The land is almost entirely used for agriculture with crops dominating in the north of the locality and grazing in the south. History The locality is named after the creek of the same name which is in turn named after Charles Robert Haly who established the Taabinga Station in the district. In August 1909, two acres were reserved for school purposes. The school was built by Remhart and Bonding for £216/18/-. The Logan River ( Yugambeh: ''Dugulumba'') is a perennial river located in the Scenic Rim, Logan and Gold Coast local government areas of the South East region of Queensland, Australia. The -long river is one of the dominant waterways in South East Queensland that drains the southern ranges of the Scenic Rim and empties into Moreton Bay after navigating the City of Logan, a major suburban centre located south of Brisbane. Coochin Coochin Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at J Bell Road, Coochin, Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1840s circa to 1920s circa. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 August 1992. History In 1842, the area known as Delhunty's Plain was settled as a pastoral run by David Hunter and his partner James Fyffe. In 1844, the lease was transferred to John Kent, who was first to re-use the traditional name of Coochin Coochin, an anglicised version of ga-jin-ga-jin ("red stones"). The main section of the homestead was constructed some time in the 1840s. A report in the '' North Australian, Ipswich and General Advertiser'' in 1858 by the Coochin Coochin superintendent, Mr. Willis, reported a breach of the Master and Servant Act at Coochin Coochin by two men, Ironmonger and Foreman, who were subsequently fined and respectively. Drayton, Queensland
Drayton is a rural locality in the Toowoomba Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Drayton had a population of 1,710 people. Drayton is at the outer southwestern edge of Toowoomba. It was first substantial settlement on the Darling Downs, initially being established in 1842. The nearby township of Toowoomba expanded more rapidly than Drayton, and in the 1860s the centre of population shifted to Toowoomba, leaving Drayton as a southwestern suburb. Thomas Alford (Queensland Pioneer)
Thomas Alford (1817-1864) was a pioneer in Queensland, Australia. He was instrumental in establishing the townships of Drayton and Toowoomba. Early life Thomas Alford was born on 6 September 1817 in The Rectory, St Audries church, West Quantoxhead, Somerset, England, the son of Charles Alford (the rector of West Quantoxhead) and his wife Elizabeth (née Symes). On 7 August 1839 he married Elizabeth Boulton at Paterson, New South Wales. Drayton Drayton started out as a settlement known as ''The Springs'' near a number of pastoral properties in the eastern Darling Downs in the early half of the 1840s. Thomas Alford was an early settler in the area who built a house and general store in the area. George Bellairs was the ''nom de plume'' of Harold Blundell (1902–1982), a crime writer and bank manager born in Heywood, near Rochdale, Lancashire. He began working for Martins Bank at the age of 15, and stayed there in escalating roles of seniority until his retirement. He then settled in the Isle of Man. He wrote more than 50 books, most featuring the detective Inspector Thomas Littlejohn, and all with the same publisher. His radio comedy ''The Legacy'' was aired in 1951. Bunya Mountains
The Bunya Mountains are a distinctive set of peaks forming an isolated section of the Great Dividing Range in southern Queensland. The mountain range forms the northern edge of the Darling Downs in the locality also called Bunya Mountains near Bell and Dalby. The mountains are south of Kingaroy and just to the south west of Nanango. The range is the remains of a shield volcano which was built from numerous basalt lava flows about 23-24 million years ago. In 2009 as part of the Q150 celebrations, the Bunya Mountains was announced as one of the Q150 Icons of Queensland for its role as a "Natural attraction". Boondooma Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at Mundubbera - Durong Road, Boondooma, South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from the 1850s to the 1870s. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Boondooma Homestead is located on the Mundubbera-Durong Road in Boondooma. The Boondooma Run was originally taken up in 1846 by the Lawson brothers and Robert Alexander, and the homestead site today includes a number of historic buildings, including a stone building and timber house erected in the 1850s, and several timber outbuildings. It is on the Darling Downs and is the administrative centre for the Western Downs Region.
