TOMA (Caldas Da Rainha)
TOMA is the local bus service in Caldas da Rainha, a medium-sized city in western central Portugal. ''Toma'' means "take this" in Portuguese, commemorating everyman figure Zé Povinho, whose image appears on the buses. Service was inaugurated by the Câmara Municipal (municipal chamber, or city council) on 15 May 2007, the municipal holiday. System overview TOMA service consists of three routes: (Blue Line), (Orange Line), and (Green Line). The Blue line uses two minibuses and runs between the western and eastern ends of town. The Orange and Green lines each operate using a single twenty-nine-seat minibus on loop routes. The Orange and the Green lines were inaugurated on 15 May 2007, as part of the first phase of TOMA service. Caldas Da Rainha
Caldas da Rainha () is a medium-sized Portuguese city in the Oeste region, in the historical province of Estremadura, and in the district of Leiria. The city serves as the seat of the larger municipality of the same name and of the Comunidade Intermunicipal do Oeste (OesteCIM, Intermunicipal Community of the West). At the 2011 census, the municipality had a population of 51,729 in an area of , with 30,343 residing in the city. Although the city itself lies about inland, three of the municipality's civil parishes lie on the Atlantic Ocean. Caldas da Rainha is best known for its sulphurous hot springs and ceramic pottery. Zé Povinho
Zé Povinho is the cartoon character of a Portuguese everyman created in 1875 by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. He became first a symbol of the Portuguese working-class people, and eventually into the unofficial personification of Portugal. Overview "Zé", in Portuguese, is a common short form of the name "José" – as "Joe" is for "Joseph", in English – and "Povinho" is a diminutive for "Povo", which means "people". His name is thus the equivalent of "Joe Public", "Joe Everyman", "Joe Shmoe", or "John Doe".
