Edward Wharton-Tigar
Edward Wharton-Tigar (1913–1995) was a decorated World War II spy, saboteur and prominent mining executive and was also recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records for amassing over two million cigarette cards – the world's largest collection, now bequeathed to the British Museum. He worked for a London-based international mining company, Selection Trust, in Yugoslavia before joining the Special Operations Executive. He planned and carried out a daring act of sabotage by destroying, whilst working undercover, a cliffside house in Tangier, Morocco, from which Germans had been using infrared equipment to track vessels passing through the Strait of Gibraltar and had been providing information to German submarines. The operation was a resounding success, with two U-boats being pin-pointed and sunk by the Royal Navy as a result. Kenneth Tigar (born September 24, 1942) is an American actor, primarily on American television, and translator. Life Kenneth Leslie Tigar was born into a Jewish family in Chelsea, Massachusetts, and raised in the Greater Boston Area. He received his BA and Ph.D. in German literature from Harvard University. As an undergraduate, he was active in theater as both an actor and a director. He spent a year at the University of Göttingen and performed in Vienna and other European cities. Michael Edward Tigar (born January 18, 1941 in Glendale, California) is an American criminal defense attorney known for representing controversial clients, a human rights activist and a scholar and law teacher. Tigar is an emeritus (retired) member of the Duke Law School and American University, Washington College of Law faculties. He was on the faculty of the University of Texas School of Law from 1983-1998, serving as the Joseph D. Jamail Centennial Chair in Law for much of that time. Early life and education Tigar earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley in 1962 and his J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in 1966. Tigar Tyres (full legal name: ''Preduzeće za proizvodnju guma Tigar Tyres d.o.o. Pirot'') is a Serbian tyre manufacturing company based in Pirot, eastern Serbia. Since 2007, it is owned by the world's largest tyre manufacturer Michelin. History Tigar Tyres was founded in 1935 in Pirot as a workshop for the manufacture of rubber products and all kinds of footwear. It was longtime part of joint venture company Tigar a.d. from Pirot. After the second world war, the company was nationalized by new Communist authorities. In 2007, the French company Michelin became a major shareholder of the company. In February 2008, Michelin bought the remaining shares of Tigar Tyres for $47 million. With this acquisition, Michelin would become 100 percent owner of the company by 2010. Operation Tiger ( hr, Operacija Tigar) was a Croatian Army (HV) offensive conducted in areas of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina near Dubrovnik between 1 and 13 July 1992. It was designed to push the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) away from the city towards Popovo field and secure a supply route via Rijeka Dubrovačka, which was gained in early June as the siege of Dubrovnik by the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) was lifted. The operation's success was facilitated by the establishment of the HV's Southern Front command and the successful conclusion of the MayJune 1992 operations against the VRS in the Neretva River valley, which concluded with Operation Jackal.
