TER-GV
TER-GV, a portmanteau of TER (French Regional Train) and TGV (high-speed train), are regional TGV linking relatively nearby cities (termini being 100–200 km apart) using the LGV Nord dedicated high-speed line (Paris-Lille-Calais). So far, those trains only operate in the Hauts-de-France region. In 2001, the first three lines were opened: * Lille-Europe– Dunkerque (30 min): The first half of the journey is made on the LGV Nord until a junction near Hazebrouck after which the train continues at lower speed on the conventional line to Dunkerque. * Lille-Europe– Calais-Fréthun (30 min) – Calais-Ville (35 min): At the northern end of the LGV Nord in Calais-Fréthun, the train continues toward the Calais-Ville station. Very few trains run on that line. * Lille-Europe–Calais-Fréthun (30 min) – Boulogne-Ville (55 min) – Étaples-Le Touquet – Gare de Rang-du-Fliers: Until 2010, the line ended in Boulogne. LGV Nord
The Ligne à Grande Vitesse Nord (North High-Speed Line), typically shortened to LGV Nord, is a French -long high-speed rail line, opened in 1993, that connects Paris to the Belgian border and the Channel Tunnel via Lille. With a maximum speed of , the line appreciably shortened rail journeys between Paris and Lille. Its extensions to the north (Belgium, the Channel Tunnel) and the south (via the LGV Interconnexion Est) have reduced journey times to Great Britain and Benelux and for inter-regional trips between the Nord (Pas de Calais) region and the southeast and southwest of France. Its route is twinned with the A1 for , which is why it was given its official nickname, the ''A1 Highway''. As it is mostly built in flat areas, the maximum incline is 25 metres per kilometre (2.5‰). Hauts-de-France (; pcd, Heuts-d'Franche; , also ''Upper France'') is the northernmost Regions of France, region of France, created by the territorial reform of French regions in 2014, from a merger of Nord-Pas-de-Calais and Picardy. Lille-Europe
Lille-Europe station (French: ''Gare de Lille-Europe'') is a SNCF railway station in Lille, France, on the LGV Nord high-speed railway. The station is primarily used for international Eurostar and long-distance SNCF TGV services, although some high-speed regional trains also call at the station. The station was built in 1993 to be used as a through station for trains between the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands, as well as French TGV services, except those coming from Paris which normally terminate at Lille-Flandres. There is a walking distance between the two stations, which are also adjacent stops on the Lille Metro. Hazebrouck (, nl, Hazebroek, , vls, Oazebroeke) is a commune in the Nord department, Hauts-de-France. It was a small market town in Flanders until it became an important railway junction in the 1860s. West Flemish was the usual language until 1880, when French was taught at school by mandate of the French government in an effort to "Frenchify" the people of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais and to extinguish their Flemish roots. The development of the railways linked Hazebrouck to Lille to Calais and Dunkirk. History The incorporation into France of what had previously been a Flemish town was ratified in the 1678 Treaties of Nijmegen. Calais-Ville
Calais-Ville station ( French: ''Gare de Calais-Ville)'' is a railway station in the city centre of Calais, France. History Gare de Ville opened in 1849, replacing the temporary St. Pierre station which had opened in 1846 and subsequently became the site of a marshalling yard. It was rebuilt in 1888–89. In 1900, the metre gauge Chemin de fer d'Anvin à Calais (CF AC) was extended from St. Pierre to Calais-Ville, enabling the closure of St. Pierre. In the Second World War, Calais-Ville station had been severely damaged in 1940 during the Battle of France, and further damaged in 1944 when Calais was liberated by Allied forces. The remaining station buildings were demolished and temporary buildings erected to serve until the station was rebuilt. The CF AC closed on 1 March 1955. Gare De Boulogne-Ville
Boulogne-Ville is one of the railway stations serving the town Boulogne-sur-Mer, Pas-de-Calais department, northern France. The other station is Boulogne-Tintelleries. History The railway reached Boulogne in 1848. Passengers had to use a goods terminal until Boulogne-Ville was built in the 1850s. The building was of red and yellow bricks on a stone base, with red, yellow and white mortar. On 12 May 1902, the Chemin de fer de Boulogne à Bonningues (CF de BB) extended its line from Saint-Martin-Boulogne to the Quai Chanzy, outside Boulogne-Ville station. The CF de BB closed on 31 December 1935, apart from a freight service at the Bonningues-lès-Ardres end of the line. The station was destroyed during World War II. Boulogne-Ville station was rebuilt in 1962–63 on a new site, on the opposite bank of the Liane. Étaples
Étaples or Étaples-sur-Mer (; vls, Stapel, lang; pcd, Étape) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. It is a fishing and leisure port on the Canche river. History Étaples takes its name from having been a medieval staple port (''stapal'' in Old Dutch), from which word the Old French word ''Estaples'' derives. As a port it was part of the administrative and economic complex centred on Montreuil after access from the sea to that town was restricted by silting. The site of modern Étaples lies on the ridge of dunes which once lay to seaward of a marsh formed off-shore from the chalk plateau of Artois. From the Canche northwards, the dunes tend to extend inland, all the way to the old chalk cliff.
