Telč (; german: Teltsch) is a town in the Jihlava District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 5,100 inhabitants. The town is well known for its historic centre, which is protected by law as an urban monument reservation and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Etymology and names The name evolved from the variant Telcz (1180), Telci (1207), to Telez (1283), Telcz (1315, 1331, 1339), Telsch (1356), Telcz (1367), Thelcz (1392), from Telč (1406) , Telcz (1447), Telecz (1480), from Telč (1481), to Nové Telč (1486), Nowa Telcz (1490), Telczie (1580), Teltsch (1633), Teltzsch (1648), Teltsch (1678, 1718 , 1720, 1751), Teltsch and Telč (1846, 1872) until the form of Telč in 1881 and 1924. The local name was originally Teleč and was created by adding the possessive suffix -jъ to the personal name Telec (meaning young bull) and was masculine. The name Telč is feminine.
