The Greater Kansas City Golf Classic was a golf tournament on the Champions Tour from 1987 to 2006. The tournament which first took place in Oklahoma, was last played in Overland Park, Kansas at The Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate. The purse for the 2006 tournament was US$1,650,000, with $248,000 going to the winner. The tournament was founded in 1987 as the Silver Pages Classic. Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Gibby Gilbert
C.L. "Gibby" Gilbert II (born January 14, 1941) is an American professional golfer who has won tournaments on both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. Gilbert was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and still makes his home there with his wife Judy. His father started him in golf at the age of 13. He attended the University of Chattanooga. He turned pro in 1965 and joined the PGA Tour in 1967. Gilbert played on the PGA Tour for three years during the 1960s but did not have much success. In 1966 he took a job at Hillcrest Country Club in Hollywood, Florida in late 1969 he began working there permanently as assistant professional. Gilbert had dozens of top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour and three victories. Juan Antonio "Chi-Chi" Rodríguez (born October 23, 1935) is a Puerto Rican professional golfer. The winner of eight PGA Tour events, he was the first Puerto Rican to be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Early years Rodríguez was born into a poor family in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. He was one of six siblings. His father used to earn $18 a week as a laborer and cattle handler. Gary James Player DMS, OIG (born 1 November 1935) is a South African retired professional golfer who is widely considered to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. During his career, Player won nine major championships on the regular tour and nine major championships on the Champions Tour. At the age of 29, Player won the 1965 U.S. Open and became the only non-American to win all four majors in a career, known as the career Grand Slam. At the time, he was the youngest player to do this, though Jack Nicklaus (26) and Tiger Woods (24) subsequently broke this record. Bobby Nichols
Robert Herman Nichols (born April 14, 1936) is an American professional golfer, best known for winning the PGA Championship in 1964. Early years Born in April 1936 and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Nichols attended St. Xavier High School. While in high school, Nichols and several other youths were involved in an automobile accident resulting from a joy ride. He suffered serious injuries including a broken pelvis, concussion, back and internal injuries, and was hospitalized 96 days. His legs were also paralyzed for about two weeks, but he was able to regain full use of his legs after intensive physical therapy. Jimmy Powell (golfer)
Jimmy Powell (January 17, 1935 – January 16, 2021) was an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1960s and 1970s, but whose greatest success came on the Senior PGA Tour in the early to mid-1990s. Powell was born in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Dallas' Sunset High School and attended North Texas State University. He turned pro in 1959. He was the golf pro at Stevens Park Golf Course in Dallas during the 1980s. Powell had limited success during the regular phase of his career, but won several official and unofficial events as a senior. In 1995, Powell became the first player to ever win both the Super Seniors competition and the Senior PGA Tour event at the same tournament. He accomplished this at the 1995 First of America Classic.
