TCDD DE11000
TCDD DE11000 is a series of diesel-electric locomotives used by the Turkish State Railways. The batch consisted of 85 units delivered from 1985. The first 20 locomotives were built by Krauss-Maffei, the remaining 70 on licence by Tülomsaş. There are two series of the locomotive, the first 15 having direct current motors, the latter 70 having alternating current motors. The units have Bo'Bo' B-B and Bo-Bo are the Association of American Railroads (AAR) and British classifications of wheel arrangement for railway locomotives with four axles in two individual bogies. A diesel locomotive is a type of railway locomotive in which the prime mover is a diesel engine. Several types of diesel locomotives have been developed, differing mainly in the means by which mechanical power is conveyed to the driving wheels. Early internal combustion locomotives and railcars used kerosene and gasoline as their fuel. Rudolf Diesel patented his first compression-ignition engine in 1898, and steady improvements to the design of diesel engines reduced their physical size and improved their power-to-weight ratios to a point where one could be mounted in a locomotive. In rail transport, a retarder is a device installed in a classification yard used to reduce the speed of freight cars as they are sorted into trains. A parking pawl is a device fitted to a motor vehicle's automatic transmission that locks up the transmission when the transmission shift lever selector is placed in the Park position. "Park" is the first position of the lever (topmost on a column shift, frontmost on a floor shift) in all cars sold in the United States since 1965 (when the order was standardised by the ''Society of Automotive Engineers'' (SAE)) through ''SAE J915'', and in most other vehicles worldwide. Railway Air Brake
A railway air brake is a railway brake power braking system with compressed air as the operating medium. Modern trains rely upon a fail-safe air brake system that is based upon a design patented by George Westinghouse on April 13, 1869. The Westinghouse Air Brake Company was subsequently organized to manufacture and sell Westinghouse's invention. In various forms, it has been nearly universally adopted. The Westinghouse system uses air pressure to charge air reservoirs (tanks) on each car. Full air pressure causes each car to release the brakes.
