T. V. Sasivarna Thevar
T.V. Sasivarna Thevar (6 August 1912 – 7 November 1973) was an Indian politician. He was a protégé of U. Muthuramalinga Thevar and a leader of the Forward Bloc. Sasivarna Thevar was born in the southern part of the Madras province. to T.Ladasamy servai& Guruvammal. In 1934 he joined the movement organized by Muthuramalinga Thevar to oppose the Criminal Tribes Act (CTA). He later joined the Indian National Congress. When Muthuramalinga Thevar resigned from the Congress and joined the All India Forward Bloc in 1939, Sasivarna Thevar followed suit. In 1951, he contested and won the Legislative Assembly elections as a Forward Bloc candidate. In 1957, Muthuramalinga Thevar contested the Parliamentary elections as a candidate of the Forward Bloc from Aruppukottai and won. Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar
Ukkirapandi Muthuramalinga Thevar (30 October 1908 – 30 October 1963), also known as Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, was an Indian freedom struggle fighter, politician, patriarch of Thevar community and a close accomplice of Subash Chandra Bose from the state of Tamil Nadu, India. He was elected three times to the Lok Sabha, national Parliamentary Constituency. The birth anniversary of Muthuramalinga Thevar on October 30 is celebrated annually by the Thevar community in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu as Thevar Jayanthi. Criminal Tribes Act
Since the 1870s, various pieces of colonial legislation in India during British rule were collectively called the Criminal Tribes Act (CTA), which criminalized entire communities by designating them as habitual criminals. Under these acts, ethnic or social communities in India were defined as "addicted to the systematic commission of non-bailable offences" such as thefts, and were registered by the government. Adult males of the groups were forced to report weekly to local police, and had restrictions on their movement imposed. The first CTA, the ''Criminal Tribes Act 1871'', applied mostly in North India, before it was extended to the Bengal Presidency and other areas in 1876, and updated to the ''Criminal Tribes Act 1911'', which included the Madras Presidency. 1957 Ramnad Riots
The Ramnad riots or the Mudukulathur riots were a series of violent clashes that occurred between July and September 1957 in the Ramnad district and in southern Tamil Nadu, India. The violence was between Thevars supporting the Forward Bloc, and pro-Congress Dalit Pallars, and was triggered by a by-election held in the aftermath of the Madras Legislative Assembly elections of earlier that year. 42 Dalits were killed during the riots. Background Treatment of Dalits Ramanathapuram district was deemed to be infamous for its brutal caste based discrimination during the colonial era of the 1930s. Dalits were denied any type of symbols linked with superior social position. In his book, J. H. Hutton, the then Census Commissioner, explained the eight restrictions enforced on Dalits by Upper castes, including a ban on the use of jewellery, ornaments and education. All India Forward Bloc (Subhasist), an Indian political party. AIFB(S) is a splinter group of All India Forward Bloc. AIFB(S) is mainly concentrated in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The party was founded in 1963 by Sasivarna Thevar, after a power vacuum led Thevar to try to take control of the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) party in Tamil Nadu.
