T-Babe
T-Babe (stylised as t-babe) was a virtual pop singer created by husband-and-wife team Sascha and Tessa Hartmann for their independent record label Glasgow Records. The couple were looking to sign an artist to sing the dance tunes that Sascha had written, but were unable to find anyone suitable. As a result, they decided instead to create a 3D computer-generated character who could perform the songs. The Hartmanns developed T-Babe over the course of a year. Initially, her purpose was to attract further attention to the label from the rest of the music industry, but the couple soon began to treat the character as an artist in her own right. Tessa met with a number of focus groups to develop T-Babe's personality and to make the character relatable. She created a five-year timeline for T-Babe, including events such as when her hair would grow and when she would have boyfriend problems. Kyoko Date
is a "virtual idol" associated with Horipro. She made her debut in 1996 as a 3D CG character. Despite her virtual nature, she was treated as talent by Horipro. She never enjoyed great popularity, but after her debut she intermittently continued her activities until 2007. Two related characters named Kaori Date and Ayano Date would eventually follow in her footsteps, with the former being a model and the latter becoming a VTuber. Naming Kyoko Date was developed under the code name "DK-96", and debuted in 1996 under the stage name . "DK" was an abbreviation for "Digital Kids", while "96" indicated that this was the 1996 version. Ananova was a web-oriented news service that originally featured a computer-simulated newscaster named ''Ananova'' programmed to read newscasts to users 24 hours a day. Ananova became a subsidiary of mobile telecommunication operator Orange S.A., after it was purchased from the Press Association (PA) in a £95m deal in 2000, after which it was merged into the Orange main news site. The character Ananova was retired in 2004, but the website continued to provide written news articles until 2009.
