Livingston County, Michigan
Livingston County is a county in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 193,866. It is part of the Detroit-Warren- Dearborn, MI Metropolitan Statistical Area. The county seat and most populous city is Howell. The county was platted in 1833, but for three years remained assigned to Shiawassee and Washtenaw counties for revenue, taxation and judicial matters. It was formally organized in 1836. Kerns Hotel Fire
The Kerns Hotel fire of December 11, 1934, in Lansing, Michigan, United States, killed 34 people, including seven Michigan state legislators, and according to the Lansing Fire Department, was the worst fire disaster in the history of Lansing. The fire occurred around 5:30 am and spread rapidly through the building's wooden interior, trapping many of the hotel's 215 guests in their rooms and forcing them to escape via fire ladders or life nets. In addition to the fatalities, 42 more people, including fourteen firemen, were injured in the fire, which was thought to have been caused by a carelessly discarded cigarette. Background The Kerns Hotel was located in the 100 block of N. Grand Ave. in Lansing, Michigan. It was built in 1909 by William G. Kerns as a four-story, 162-room hotel, constructed of brick with a wooden interior. Gregory is an unincorporated community in Livingston County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The community is located within Unadilla Township. As an unincorporated community, Gregory has no legally defined boundaries or population statistics of its own but does have its own post office with the 48137 ZIP Code. Geography Gregory is located within central Unadilla Township in southwest Livingston County. The community is located about southwest of the Brighton–Howell area. It is one of the westernmost communities included in the Detroit–Warren–Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area (Metro Detroit). Gregory sits at an elevation of above sea level. The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963.
