T.H. Watkins
Thomas Henry Watkins (March 29, 1936 — February 23, 2000) was an American magazine editor and author primarily between the 1960s to 1990s. As an editor, Watkins primarily worked for The Wilderness Society (United States), The Wilderness Society as their ''Wilderness'' editor from 1982 to 1997. Additional magazines Watkins edited for were ''The American West'' and ''American Heritage''. With these two magazines, Watkins was an associate editor and senior editor. As a writer, Watkins primarily wrote about Western United States while also releasing two books about the Great Depression. As a biographer, Watkins published a 1991 book about Harold L. Ickes titled ''Righteous Pilgrim: The Life and Times of Harold Ickes, 1874-1952''. That year, ''Righteous Pilgrim'' won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Biography. The Wilderness Society is an American non-profit land conservation organization that is dedicated to protecting natural areas and federal public lands in the United States. They advocate for the designation of federal wilderness areas and other protective designations, such as for national monuments. They support balanced uses of public lands, and advocate for federal politicians to enact various land conservation and balanced land use proposals.
