Sør-Herøy (South Herøy) is an island in the middle of the municipality of Herøy in Nordland county, Norway. Sør-Herøy is surrounded by the following islands: Nord-Herøy (to the northeast), Tenna (to the south), and Indre Øksningan (to the northwest). To the west lies ''Færøysundet'' (Færøya Strait), named after the islet of Færøya, which is actually a peninsula connected to Sør-Herøy. To the east lies ''Herøysundet'' (Herøy Strait), which is crossed by the Herøysund Bridge and Norwegian County Road 828 to Nord-Herøy. To the south lies ''Tennsundet'' (Tenna Strait) with the Tennsund Bridge and Norwegian County Road 161 to Tenna. Herøy Church (Nordland)
Herøy Church ( no, Herøy kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Herøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Silvalen on the island of Sør-Herøy. It is the main church for the Herøy parish which is part of the Nord-Helgeland prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in the 12th century using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 350 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1432, but the church was originally constructed during the second half of the 1100s. The church has a rectangular nave, a tower to the west, and a narrower choir with a semicircular apse. The choir and apse have a lower roof line than the nave. Altra, Nordland
Altra is an island in Alstahaug Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The island lies between the large island of Alsta and the small island of Tenna (in Herøy Municipality). The flat island is rather unusual in the area because it is about long and at most about wide at the northern end. Most of the island is very narrow, and in some places, it is only about wide. There are a few small villages on the island: Austbø in the north, Korsvegen and Blomsøya in the middle, and Hestøya in the south. Husvær
Husvær is an island group in the municipality of Herøy in Nordland county, Norway. The islands are located about southwest of the municipal center of Silvalen and just southwest of the island of Tenna. The Sandværet islands lie about west of Husvær. The islands have one main road connecting several of the populated islands together with a ferry link at the eastern end. The main populated islands are Husvær, Prestøya, and Brasøya. Alsten
Alsta (historically, ''Alsten'' or ''Alstein'') is an island in the municipalities of Alstahaug and Leirfjord in Nordland county, Norway. The island is surrounded by the Vefsnfjorden to the east, the Leirfjorden to the north, and the Alstenfjorden to the south and west. The eastern part of the island is dominated by the Seven Sisters mountain range which has five mountains that are more than tall, while the western part of the island is relatively flat and it is the location of the town of Sandnessjøen and the village of Søvika in the south. The long island has an area of , and its highest point is the mountain Botnkrona, which reaches above sea level. In 2017, there were 6,969 residents on the island. Petter Dass
Petter Pettersen Dass (c. 1647 – 17 August 1707) was a Lutheran priest and the foremost Norwegian poet of his generation, writing both baroque hymns and topographical poetry. Biography He was born at Northern Herøy (Dønna), Nordland, Norway. His father was a merchant originally from Dundee, Scotland, Peter Dundas who had established himself as a trader along the northern Norwegian coast. His mother was Maren Falch (1629–1709) whose father had been the local bailiff, a large land owner in Helgeland and manager for the Dønnes estate of Henrik Rantzau. His father died in 1653, when Petter was 6, and the children were cared for by relatives and friends. His mother remarried, but Petter remained with his mother's sister, Anna Falck, who was married to the priest at Nærøy.
