Sándor Rácz (17 March 1933 – 30 April 2013) was a Hungarian politician. Rácz was born in Hódmezővásárhely, and represented the FKGP. He was a famous veteran of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Hódmezővásárhely (; also known by other alternative names) is a city with county rights in southeast Hungary, on the Great Hungarian Plain, at the meeting point of the Békés-Csanádi Ridge and the clay grassland surrounding the river Tisza. In 2017, it had a population of 44,009. Etymology and names The city's name, which literally translates to ''Beavers' Field Marketplace'', was first mentioned after the unification of two Árpád-era villages, Hód and Vásárhely, the former getting its name after Beaver's lake, an apocope of ''Hód-tó'' (now one of the city's districts and the canal ''Hód-tavi-csatorna)'' and the latter coming from the mediaeval legal term marking settlements with the right of hosting markets and literally meaning market town. The Independent Smallholders, Agrarian Workers and Civic Party ( hu, Független Kisgazda-, Földmunkás- és Polgári Párt), known mostly by its acronym FKgP or its shortened form Independent Smallholders' Party ( hu, Független Kisgazdapárt), is a political party in Hungary. Since the 2002 parliamentary elections, the party has won no seats. History Founded on 12 October 1930, the party was one of the largest anti-fascist opposition parties in the 1930s and during World War II. Representing the interests of landed peasants along with some poor peasants and urban middle class, it advocated for land reform and democratization.
