Sylmar High School
Sylmar Charter High School is a charter school in the northeast San Fernando Valley in the Sylmar district of Los Angeles, California. Established in 1961, it is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, District 2, and serves more than 3,600 students in grades 9–12. The school mascot is the Spartans. History Sylmar first opened in 1961. Sylmar Magnet School opened September 13, 1994, serving 396 students annually. In 2016, Sylmar High School became a Charter High School. Athletics Sylmar's athletic program has flourished in the Los Angeles City Section. Particularly in football, the Spartans have won two city titles under former head coach Jeff Engilman, in 1992 and 1994. Since then, the Spartans have had plenty of 10+ win seasons making playoffs but have fallen short of advancing to the championship games. Durell Price
Durell Price was a football player for the UCLA Bruins and Sylmar High School Spartans between 1993 and 1999. Despite being highly regarded out of college, he was never drafted and did not make it to the NFL except for a short stint with the San Diego Chargers in 2000. High school Durell was a major component of the heyday of Jeff Engileman's powerhouse Sylmar High School's dominance of the City Section. In 1994 and 1995, he was named 4A City player of the year and team MVP, and lead the Spartans to a 1994 City Championship with a 38-6 win over Crenshaw. Suzette Martinez Valladares
Suzette Martinez Valladares (born December 21, 1980) is an American politician who served as a member of the California State Assembly from the 38th district, which included the Santa Clarita Valley and Simi Valley. Elected in 2020, she assumed office on December 7, 2020. In 2022, she ran in the newly redrawn 40th Assembly district, and narrowly lost the election to Pilar Schiavo by a 50.2% to 49.8% margin. George Wrighster
George Frederick Wrighster III (born April 1, 1981) is a former American football tight end. He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played college football at Oregon. Wrighster has also been a member of the New York Giants. Professional career Wrighster was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played six seasons with the team before being released on April 3, 2009. He often showed flashes of greatness, but missed 30 games due to injury. John Orson Whitaker, Jr. (born December 13, 1959) is an American actor notable for several film and television performances during his childhood. Brian Roberson
Brian Roberson is a former record-setting receiver for Fresno State University and the XFL's San Francisco Demons. Sylmar High Roberson was a standout receiver/defensive back for the Spartans during the 1990-91 seasons. As a Junior in 1990, Roberson caught 16 passes for 222 yards and 2 touchdowns, while also returning an interception for a touchdown. Roberson was named 1st team All-Valley Pac-8 conference as a junior. As a senior in 1991, Roberson recorded 28 receptions for 464 yards and 5 touchdowns. His total of 15 touchdowns included a record-setting performance against Van Nuys, as he scored touchdowns four different ways: 29-yard reception, 30-yard run, 82-yard punt return, and a 98-yard interception return.
