Syed Abdul Rahim
Syed Abdul Rahim (17 August 1909 – 11 June 1963), popularly known as Rahim Saab, was an Indian football coach and manager of the Indian national team from 1950 until his death in 1963, and a former player. He is regarded as the architect of modern Indian football. Basically a teacher by profession, he was a good motivator and his tenure as a coach is regarded as a "golden age" of football in India. Under his stewardship, the Indian national team were renowned for their technical qualities and tactical innovations. They went on to win Gold medals in Asian Games of—( 1951-Delhi and 1962-Jakarta), play semi-finals of the Summer Olympics—( 1956-Melbourne) making India the first ever Asian country to achieve this place, win the titles of Colombo Cup for the years of—( 1952-Colombo and 1954-Calcutta and came runners-up in Pestabola Merdeka—( 1959 KualaLumpur). Colombo Cup
The Colombo Cup was an annual football tournament first held in Colombo, Ceylon. It was also known as Asian Quadrangular Football Tournament. Established in 1952 by the Ceylon Football Association as a part of the Colombo Fair, teams from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon) and Burma played each other in a round robin tournament. Santosh Trophy
The Santosh Trophy, officially known as Hero Senior Men's National Football Championship due to sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp, is a state-level football competition contested by the state associations and government institutions under the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the sport's governing body in India. Before the starting of the first national club league, the National Football League in 1996, the Santosh Trophy was considered the top domestic honour in India. Many players who have represented India internationally, played and gained honour while playing in the Santosh Trophy. Rovers Cup
The Rovers Cup was an annual football tournament held in India, organized by the Western India Football Association. It was the second oldest tournament in India after Durand Cup. History Rovers Cup was incorporated by some British football enthusiasts in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, in 1890, as a form of amusement. After the foundation of Bombay Football Association (BFA) in 1902, the tournament became well organized. Patronised by Justice Russell, the tournament was firstly opened to British teams. Norbert Fruvall
Norbert Andrew Fruvall was an Indian footballer. In the 1940s, Fruvall was the captain and the coach of Hyderabad City Police that was one of the strongest football teams in India. He recruited players like Noor Muhammad, Moinuddin and G. Y. S. Laiq. The Police won the Ashe Gold Cup in Bangalore in 1943 defeating Royal Air Force 2–1, with Fruvall scoring both goals. When the Durand Cup was resumed after war in 1950, they won it in the first year. Fruvall was selected to play for India in the 1948 Olympics but could not make it. He retired from football in 1951.
