The men's 100 metre breaststroke at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships took place on 25 March (heats and semifinals) and on the evening of 26 March (final) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. 123 swimmers were entered in the event, of which 117 swam. Rod Laver Arena is a multipurpose arena located within Melbourne Park, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The arena is the main venue for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tennis tournament of the calendar year. History Replacing the aging Kooyong Stadium, construction on the arena began in 1985. It was undertaken by Civil & Civic was completed in 1987 at a cost of AU$94 million. It opened on 11 January 1988 for the 1988 Australian Open. Mihail Alexandrov ( bg, Михаил Александров) (born April 9, 1985) is an Olympic swimmer from Bulgaria. He swam for Bulgaria at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. Alexandrov has been swimming for the USA since 2009. Alexandrov, who has dual Bulgarian/USA citizenship, swam for the USA's Northwestern University from 2003 to 2007,. In March 2007 he set a USA National Record in the 100 yard breaststroke (51.56) at the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships, while swimming for Northwestern. Glenn Andrew Mark Snyders (born 7 April 1987) is a South African-born former competitive swimmer for New Zealand. He won the silver medal in the 50 m breaststroke at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in a time of 27.67 seconds. He currently holds the New Zealand records for 50 m, 100 m and 200 m breaststroke in both long course and short course. He also competed at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and the 2008 Summer Olympics. Mike Brown (swimmer)
Michael Andrew Brown (born May 5, 1984) is a Canadian former competitive swimming (sport), swimmer. He started swimming at age seven and was a student at the University of Calgary. Brown's dream was to become an olympian for Canada and it became true when he qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. He broke the 200-meter breaststroke Canadian record and placed 6th. His best finish at a world championships was at the 2005 championships in Montreal, when he finished 2nd in the 200-metre breaststroke. Brown won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia, beating his opponent by 0.01 of a second. He was born in Perth, Ontario. Cameron van der Burgh OIS (born 25 May 1988) is a retired South African competitive swimmer and hedge fund analyst. He is Africa's first home-trained world record holder and individual male Olympic Champion. He is married to long time partner Nefeli Valakelis. Roman Andreyevich Sludnov (russian: Роман Андреевич Слуднов, born 24 February 1980) is a breaststroke swimmer from Russia. He was the first person to swim the long course 100 m breaststroke under one minute. In 2000 he held world records in the long course 100 m and short course 100 m and 200 m. At the 2000 Olympics, he won a bronze medal in the 100 m event. Biography Sludnov has a younger brother Artyom (born 1981) who won a national title in breaststroke in 1999. His parents, Natalia Roshchina and Andrei Sludnov, are elite swimming coaches and were taking both sons to their training sessions since early age. Sludnov learned to swim aged four, started training at seven, won his first title aged fourteen, and by 1997 was selected to the national team. Giedrius Titenis (born 21 July 1989) is a Lithuanian swimmer, who specialized in breaststroke events. He is a four-time Olympian, a multiple-time Lithuanian record holder in the men's breaststroke, and a double swimming champion in the same discipline at the 2011 Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China. Christopher Anthony Cook (born 5 May 1979) is an English former competitive swimmer who swam for Great Britain in the Olympics, world championships and European championships, and competed for England in the Commonwealth Games. Cook specialises in the breaststroke, and took gold in the 50 and 100 metre finals representing England at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
