The women's 200 metre backstroke event at the 2004 Olympic Games was contested at the Olympic Aquatic Centre of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex in Athens, Greece on August 19 and 20. Athens Olympic Aquatic Centre
The Athens Olympic Aquatic Centre is a complex at the Athens Olympic Sports Complex, consisting of two outdoor pools and one indoor pool, that was built for the 1991 Mediterranean Games. It was refurbished and expanded for the 2004 Summer Olympics. The larger of the outdoor pools, which seats 11,500 spectators, hosted Swimming at the 2004 Summer Olympics, swimming and Water Polo at the 2004 Summer Olympics, water polo events. The smaller pool, which hosted Synchronized Swimming at the 2004 Summer Olympics, synchronized swimming, sat 5,300 fans. Krisztina Egerszegi
Krisztina Egerszegi (; born 16 August 1974) is a Hungarian former world record holding swimmer and one of the greatest Hungarian Olympic champions of the modern era. She is a three-time Olympian (1988, 1992 and 1996) and five-time Olympic champion; and one of four individuals (Dawn Fraser, Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky being the other three) to have ever won the same swimming event at three consecutive Summer Olympics. Frances Sarah Adcock (born 9 August 1984) is a British-born Australian former competition swimmer who specialized in backstroke events. Adcock was born in Nottingham, England. She moved to Adelaide, South Australia in her teenage years, where she worked as a resident athlete and a varsity player for the Western Sharks and Norwood Swimming Club. Adcock is a three-time short-course Australian champion in the 200m backstroke breaking the Australian record for the event at the 2008 World SC Championship trials. Melissa Morgan (born 1 January 1985) is an Australian swimmer who specialized in backstroke events. Morgan qualified for the women's 200-metre backstroke at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, by attaining both her personal record and an A-standard entry time of 2:12.90 from the Telstra Olympic Swimming Trials in Sydney. Jennifer Fratesi (born April 20, 1984) is a Canadian former competitive swimmer who specialized in backstroke events. Fratesi set a Canadian record of 2:11.16 in the 200-metre backstroke at the 2001 FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, placing 4th in the world. This national record would last nearly a decade, one of the oldest in the country. Fratesi grew up in Sault Ste.
