Evelyn Verrasztó
Evelyn Verrasztó (born 17 July 1989) is a Hungarian swimmer, who competed for her native country at the Summer Olympics in 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016. Her father and coach, Zoltán Verrasztó, and her brother, Dávid Verrasztó are also Olympic swimmers. Backstroke Swimming
Backstroke or back crawl is one of the four swimming styles used in competitive events regulated by FINA, and the only one of these styles swum on the back. This swimming style has the advantage of easy breathing, but the disadvantage of swimmers not being able to see where they are going. It also has a different start from the other three competition swimming styles. The swimming style is similar to an ''upside down'' front crawl or freestyle. Both backstroke and front crawl are long-axis strokes. In individual medley backstroke is the second style swum; in the medley relay it is the first style swum. European Short Course Swimming Championships
The European Short Course Swimming Championships (variously referred to informally as the "Short Course Europeans" or "European 25m Championships") are a swimming meet, organized by LEN. The meet features swimmers from Europe, competing in events in a short course (25-meter) pool. The meet has traditionally been held in the beginning of December. Annual until 2013, the event now occurs in odd years. History The Championships were first held in 1996, and were preceded by the "European Sprint Swimming Championships" which were held from 1991–1994. The ''Sprint'' meet featured 14 events: the 50s of the strokes, the 100 Individual Medley, and 4x50 relays (free and medley). In 1996, the meet expanded to 38 events, adding the 100s and 200s of stroke, the 400 and 800/1500 frees, and the 200 and 400 IMs; and the name was changed to "Short Course". The Swimming (sport), swimming competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics took place from 9 to 17 August 2008 at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre. The newly introduced open water marathon events (10 km) were held on 20 and 21 August 2008 at Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park. Swimming featured 34 events (17 male, 17 female), including two 10 km Marathon swimming, open-water marathons. The remaining 32 were contested in a 50 m Olympic-size swimming pool, long course pool within the Olympic Park. World Games
The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after a Summer Olympic Games, over the course of 11 days. The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. In the most recent editions, between 25 and 34 sports have been included in the official programme. Lifesaving is an official discipline of the World Games, the Games with all the sports, recognized by the IOC but not yet in the Olympic program. Beach Flags A series of flags are inserted into the sand, in a row. The number of the flags are less than a number of competitors. As the game progressed one flag is removed from the ground. Competitors stand on the finish line facing down position before the race starts. The winner is the person who grabs a flag 20 yards away. The races has the freedom to choose any flags. It is prohibited that any players obstruct the other competitors. If any player rise before the starter starts that a disqualification. A player who holds a flag is eliminated. 2017 European Short Course Swimming Championships
The 2017 European Short Course Swimming Championships took place in Copenhagen, Denmark from 13 to 17 December 2017. The meet was held in the Royal Arena, which was finished in early 2017. It was the first major sports event in this arena, which has a capacity of circa 12,500. It was the second time that Denmark hosted this event, after the 2013 edition in Herning. Bidding process Poland and Italy were also bidding to host the championships. The decision to select Copenhagen was announced by LEN President Paolo Barelli on 9 October 2015. 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships
The 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships were held in Szczecin, Poland, from December 8 to 11, 2011. The event featured competition in a short course (25m) pool. The event was held over four days with heats, semifinals and a final for the 50 m and 100 m events and heats and a final for all other events with the exception of the women's 800 m and men's 1500 m freestyle which were heat-declared winners. Heats were held in the morning, with semifinals, finals and the fastest heat of the distance freestyle events in the evening. Each nation was permitted to enter four swimmers into each individual event, however only the fastest two were allowed to progress to the semifinal and/or final.
