Sweetwaters Music Festival was a series of events held between 1980 and 1999, at venues such as a farm in Ngāruawāhia, then further north on a farm near Pukekawa, and finally at South Auckland, New Zealand. Ngāruawāhia () is a town in the Waikato region of the North Island of New Zealand. It is located north-west of Hamilton at the confluence of the Waikato and Waipā Rivers, adjacent to the Hakarimata Range. Ngāruawāhia is in the Hamilton Urban Area, the fourth largest urban area in New Zealand. The location was once considered as a potential capital of New Zealand. The Crocodiles
The Crocodiles was a New Zealand pop/ new wave band formed in 1979 with lead singer Jenny Morris, who went on to commercial success as a solo artist in Australia; and later included drummer Barton Price, who subsequently joined Sardine v and then Models. The Crocodiles top 20 hit single in New Zealand was "Tears" in 1980 from debut album, ''Tears''; a second album, ''Looking at Ourselves'', appeared in November. The band relocated to Australia in February 1981 but disbanded in July without further releases. ''Bananas in Pyjamas'' is an Australian children's television series that first aired on 20 July 1992 on ABC. It has since been syndicated in many countries and dubbed into other languages. In the United States, the "Pyjamas" in the title was modified to reflect the American spelling ''pajamas''. Miz Ima Starr is a New Zealand/American singing drag cabaret performer of stage and small screen. She is the comic creation of Charles Bracewell, best known for her appearances on reality TV show Australia's Got Talent. Bracewell produced and/or directed six films and one documentary television series, most notably the short film Siren starring Craig Hall (actor) and Dean O'Gorman. Michelle Rounds
Michelle Rounds (29 April 1962) is a jazz singer, songwriter, and teacher from Australia. Early life The eldest daughter of five children, Rounds was born in Sydney Australia. Her father was an architect who sang and played guitar. Her grandmother sang, played several instruments, and was in the first all female band in Suva, Fiji in the early 1940s. Her family moved to Fiji when she was 11. Career Rounds is a scat singer who has released several albums and is a supporter of using native language and dialect. On ''Let Me See Now'' in 2005 she collaborated with the Japanese band Steal & Shorty. In 2014 she released ''Time & Space'', recorded with Egyptian Lil.garhy, who raps in Arabic and at the time of recording was 17 years old. Glen Moffatt
Glen Moffatt is a New Zealand country music singer-songwriter who relocated to Brisbane, Australia, in 2002. Moffatt was born in Hastings and raised in Napier. He was a newspaper journalist before moving to Auckland at the end of 1991. New Zealand music historian John Dix wrote of New Zealand music in the 1990s, "It wasn't all alt.rock, hip hop and hard rock in the '90s. William Christopher Smither (born November 11, 1944) is an American folk/blues singer, guitarist, and songwriter. His music draws deeply from the blues, American folk music, and modern poets and philosophers. Early life, influences and education He was born in Miami, Florida, United States to Catherine(nee Weaver) and William J. Smither. Although Smither does not himself credit family influence to his talents, uncle Howard E. Ma-V-Elle is a three-piece New Zealand girl group best known for their top-40 singles in the New Zealand charts in the mid 1990s. The group consists of Lavina Williams, Marina Davis and Maybelle Galuvao. Background The group formed at James Cook High School, Manurewa in the mid 1990s. Southside Of Bombay
Southside of Bombay are a Māori band from New Zealand. They are best known for their single 'What's the Time, Mr Wolf?' which was originally released in 1992. The song was re-released following its appearance in the 1994 film and on the soundtrack of ''Once Were Warriors'', after which it became second best selling New Zealand single that year. The band took their name from the Bombay Hills in northern New Zealand. Men At Work
Men at Work are an Australian rock band formed in Melbourne in 1978 and best known for breakthrough hits such as "Down Under", "Who Can It Be Now?", "Be Good Johnny", " Overkill", and " It's a Mistake". Its founding member and frontman is Colin Hay, who performs on lead vocals and guitar. After playing as an acoustic duo with Ron Strykert during 1978–1979, Hay formed the group with Strykert playing bass guitar and Jerry Speiser on drums. They were soon joined by Greg Ham on flute, saxophone, and keyboards and John Rees on bass guitar, with Strykert switching back to lead guitar. Grant Lee Buffalo was an American rock band based in Los Angeles, California, United States, consisting of Grant-Lee Phillips (vocals and guitar), Paul Kimble ( bass) and Joey Peters (drums). All three were previously members of another Los Angeles band, Shiva Burlesque. Shiva Burlesque In the late 1980s, Jeffrey Clark, Grant-Lee Phillips, James Brenner and Joey Peters started as a rock music formation called Shiva Burlesque.
