Sweet Jane (band)
Sweet Jane are an Irish band formed in 2008. The current line-up consists of Danda Paxton (lead guitar/vocals), Neil Paxton ( backing vocals/keyboards/ guitar), Ruairi Paxton (bass), Conor Paxton (guitar) and Donagh O Brien (drums). The group began working together after guitarist and songwriter Danda Paxton asked Lydia Des Dolles to provide vocals on a number of tracks he had written. Along with Ruairi Paxton and Donagh O Brien they recorded and released their first EP 'Black Boots and Black Hearts'. 2009 saw the band sign to Irish Label Reekus Records and together they released 'You're Making This Hard" which included Sweet Jane's cover of Silent Night. The following year, the band released their debut album ' Sugar for My Soul' to positive reviews. The band's music has been played on the several RTÉ TV shows including the very popular Fade Street. Indie Rock
Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Independent labels such as Flying Nun Records, Flying Nun began to promote the scene across New Zealand, inspiring key college rock bands in the United States such as Pavement (band), Pavement, Pixies (band), Pixies and R.E.M. ''DJ Hero'' is a music video game, developed by FreeStyleGames and published by Activision as a rhythm game spin-off of the ''Guitar Hero'' franchise. It was released on October 27, 2009 in North America and on October 29, 2009 in Europe. The game is based on turntablism, the act of creating a new musical work from one or more previously recorded songs using record players and sound effect generators, and features 94 remixes of two different songs from a selection of over 100 different songs across numerous genres. To score points, the player must press buttons to activate accented beats, adjust their crossfade between the two songs, and "scratch" the turntable on the game's custom controller in time to marks that scroll on the screen to score points and perform well for the virtual crowd. ''RAW'' is an Irish drama television series which was broadcast on RTÉ. The show focuses on the staff at a Dublin restaurant. The first season featured six episodes shown on RTÉ Two in September 2008 and the second season of six episodes was shown on RTÉ One from 10 January 2010. The third season of six episodes was broadcast on RTÉ One from 9 January 2011. Season 4 was broadcast on RTÉ One from Sunday, 8 January 2012. Season 5 began on RTÉ One on Sunday, 6 January 2013 at 21:30, while also available on RTÉ One+1 at 22:30 and RTÉ Player. The Season 5 finale aired on 10 February 2013 with Charlene McKenna and Damon Gameau departing the series. The Raw Sessions
''The Raw Sessions'' (also known as ''The Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson'') was an Irish interactive music television programme broadcast on RTÉ Two in 2009. The country's first ever rockumentary series, it wad presented by Dez Ryan and followed the attempts of eight musical acts to write and record an original composition in the space of twelve hours. It is produced by Lotus Media. ''The Raw Sessions'' commenced broadcast on 12 May 2009. Episodes are broadcast late on Tuesday nights and repeated late on Saturday nights. Each week the two recorded tracks were made available for download, with downloads counting towards the Irish Singles Chart. Tracks were recorded in destinations such as Sun Studios in Temple Bar, Dublin, Windmill Lane Studios on Ringsend Road, Dublin, and Grouse Lodge in County Westmeath. State (magazine)
State.ie (formerly ''State Magazine'') was an Irish website and, before, a monthly music magazine. It launched in April 2008 and switched to online-only distribution in January 2009 after having published a total of ten issues. The magazine continued online until 2020, when that year's edition of its ''Faces'' series prominently mentioned the website having seized publication. It enjoyed a good run and was voted Best Music Site in 2008 and Best Web Publication in 2010 in the Irish Web Awards. Originally, the concept of the magazine involved a hard copy of which there was a charge to purchase. However after six issues it was decided to make the magazine's content free both online and in print. The first issue, April 2008, appeared on Irish shelves on 6 March 2008 and featured Michael Stipe of R.E.M. on the cover.
