Swedish National Defence Research Institute ( sv, Försvarets forskningsanstalt, FOA) was a Swedish government agency in defense research existing from 1945 to 31 December 2000. It was amalgamated with the National Aeronautical Research Institute (FFA) into the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) which was established on 1 January 2001. History The National Defence Research Institute (FOA) was established in 1945 (Instruction TS C:II No. 24), and took over operations at the Swedish Armed Forces Chemical Institute (''Försvarsväsendets kemiska anstalt'', FKA), the Military Physics Institute and the Telecommunications Technical Working Group of the Swedish Board of Inventions (''Statens uppfinnarnämnds teletekniska arbetsgrupp'', SUN), that is, essentially all technical and scientific research outside the industry. Bengt Anderberg (officer)
Bengt Anderberg (17 April 1920 – 24 September 2008) was a Swedish poet, novelist, editor and playwright. Biography Bengt Nikolas Anderberg was born in the neighborhood of Lundby in Gothenburg, Sweden. From 1947 he was a regular critic for ''Bonniers litterära magasin'' and from 1950 for the cultural department of the newspaper '' Expressen'' over a 48-year career. He was also a frequent collaborator in diverse subjects which appeared in ''Expressen''. Anderberg translated many collections of poems and plays and was a prolific translator of drama, both for radio and for the stage. He made his literary debut in 1945 with the short story collection ''En kväll om våren''. His novel ''Kain'' from 1948 led to a fierce debate. Bo Rybeck
Bo Rybeck (21 January 1935 – 16 December 2019) was a Swedish physician and researcher. He served as Surgeon-General of the Swedish Armed Forces (1981–1985) and as Director-General of the Swedish National Defence Research Institute (1985–1994). Early life Rybeck was born on 21 January 1935 in Hedvig Eleonora Parish, Stockholm, Sweden, the son of Ebbe Rybeck, an auditor, and his wife Anna-Lisa (née Tidlund). Lars-Erik Tammelin
Lars-Erik Tammelin (16 March 1923 – 3 January 1991) was a Swedish chemist, defence researcher and civil servant. Tammelin served as Director-General of the Swedish National Defence Research Institute from 1984 to 1985. Career Tammelin was born in Stockholm, Sweden, the son of Supreme Court Justice Erik Tammelin and his wife Elsa (née Palm). Tammelin, who was an organic chemist, was recruited to the Swedish National Defence Research Institute (FOA) in 1950 for research on nerve gas and nerve gas countermeasures. At this time, FOA (whose previous chemical warfare activities had focussed on mustard gas and other World War I-style compounds) had become aware that large quantities of nerve gas, primarily Tabun, had been stockpiled during World War II. Torsten Karl Adolf Magnusson (24 December 1907 – 24 November 1987) was a Swedish physicist and defense research scientists. Magnusson was Director-General of the Swedish National Defence Research Institute (FOA) from 1968 to 1974 and was one of the prominent figures of the Swedish nuclear weapons program. Erik Martin Fehrm (8 March 1910 – 6 August 2001) was a Swedish engineer and civil servant. He was mainly active at the Swedish National Defence Research Institute (FOA), where he served as Director General from 1957 to 1968. Nils Hugo Charles Larsson (18 December 1906 – 25 February 1986) was a Swedish engineer and civil servant. He was Chief Director of the Swedish National Defence Research Institute from 1952 to 1957.
