''Swathi Muthyam'' () is a 1986 Indian Telugu-language drama film written and directed by K. Viswanath and produced by Edida Nageswara Rao. The film stars Kamal Haasan and Raadhika, while Gollapudi Maruti Rao, J. V. Somayajulu, Nirmalamma, Sarath Babu, and Y. Vijaya play supporting roles. The soundtrack and background score were composed by Ilaiyaraaja. ''Swathi Muthyam'' depicts the plight of a young widow who is rescued by an autistic man. ''Swathi Muthyam'' was a box office success. The film was screened at the Moscow Film Festival, the Asian and African film festival in Tashkent, the 11th International Film Festival of India in the inaugural mainstream section. The film received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu, three Nandi Awards and the Filmfare Award for Best Director – Telugu. Edida Nageswara Rao
Edida Nageswara Rao (24 April 1934 – 4 October 2015) was an Indian film producer in Telugu cinema. He owned the film production house Poornodaya Movie Creations in Tollywood. He produced ''Sankarabharanam'', '' Swayam Krushi'', '' Siri Siri Muvva'' and ''Swati Mutyam'', which were showcased at the Moscow Film Festival. He won five Nandi Awards. Career Rao produced films with a classical and realistic touch, in the 1970s and 1980s. Almost all of the films he produced went on to win National Film Awards. He was born to Sattiraju Naidu, in a Telugu Naidu family. Some of his most memorable films, in Telugu cinema, are his collaborations with K. Viswanath, Bharathiraja, and Vamsy. List Of Indian Submissions For The Academy Award For Best Foreign Language Film
India has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film (formerly Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film) since 1957, a year after the incorporation of the category. The award is given annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The "Best Foreign Language Film" category was not created until 1956; however, between 1947 and 1955, the Academy presented a non-competitive Honorary Award for the best foreign language films released in the United States. The Film Federation of India (FFI) appoints a committee to choose one film among those released that year to be submitted as India's official entry to the Academy for a nomination for "Best Foreign Language Film" the following year.
