"Swallowed" is a song by British alternative rock band Bush, released on 15 October 1996 as the lead single from the band's 1996 album, ''Razorblade Suitcase'', which topped the US ''Billboard'' 200 chart. It was later included on the remix album ''Deconstructed'', the live album ''Zen X Four'', and the Bush greatest hits compilation. The release of "Swallowed" followed the fifth and final single off of the band's 1994 debut album ''Sixteen Stone'', " Machinehead", by only six months. Critical reception British magazine ''Music Week'' rated the song four out of five, adding that "the successful British exports look set for their first big UK hit with this melodic cut." Bush (British Band)
Bush are an English rock band formed in London, England in 1992. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Gavin Rossdale, lead guitarist Chris Traynor, bassist Corey Britz, and drummer Nik Hughes. In 1994, Bush found immediate success outside the UK with the release of their debut album, ''Sixteen Stone'', which is certified six times multi-platinum by the RIAA. They went on to become one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 1990s, selling over ten million records in the United States and 20 million records worldwide. Despite their success in the US (especially in the mid-1990s), the band were considerably less popular in their home country and they have enjoyed only marginal success there. "Glycerine" is a song by English band Bush. It was released on 14 November 1995 as the fourth single from their debut album, ''Sixteen Stone''. Composition Gavin Rossdale wrote the song about his then-girlfriend, Suze DeMarchi as stated in an interview with Howard Stern. He wrote it in his London flat, feeling that there was an ancient, mystical element to the song as it was coming together. He told ''Entertainment Weekly'' in 2017 that "I was like a conduit. Something about it was bigger than anything we were doing." The song is in the key of F major. Composition Gavin Rossdale wrote the song about an ex-girlfriend, stating, "It was written in the context of half regret, half celebration and just being objective about the situation of coming down from that high and dealing with those intense emotions." In 2017 he added: Drummer Robin Goodridge told music publication ''Modern Drummer'' that the bass line and drum grooves in "Comedown" were borrowed from a song by English band Massive Attack. Of the 12 songs featured on ''Sixteen Stone'', "Comedown" was the first to be written, and remains unchanged lyrically from its original form.
