Svjedoci
''Witnesses'' ( hr, Svjedoci) is a Croatian drama film directed by Vinko Brešan. It was released in 2003. Synopsis The plot of the movie is centered in the city of Karlovac in 1992, during the Croatian War of Independence. The front lines, where Croatian and Serbian forces fight each other, lie near the city. Meanwhile, in the city of Karlovac, a Serbian civilian Vasić is murdered. The story follows the local police officer Barbir (Dražen Kühn), who tries to solve the murder in spite of ethnic hatred and war revolving nearby. The film's screenplay is based on Jurica Pavičić's 1997 novel ''Alabaster Sheep'' (''Ovce od gipsa''), which was in turn inspired by a real-life case of murder of the Zec family in Zagreb in 1991. Vinko Brešan
Vinko Brešan (; born 3 February 1964) is a Croatian film director who emerged into international renown with three critically acclaimed and award-winning films that, each in its own way, broke some of the perceived taboos of Croatian cinema in the 1990s. Brešan was born in Zagreb to a mother, writer Jelena Godlar-Brešan, who was of part Jewish descent, and famous playwright Ivo Brešan. He studied philosophy and comparative literature at the University of Zagreb, as well as Film and Television Direction at the university's Academy of Dramatic Arts. As a student, he was awarded the Oberhausen debutant prize for his short film ''Naša burza'' ("Our Stock Exchange") in 1988. Živko Zalar
Živko Zalar (born 24 April 1948 in Zagreb) is a Croatian cinematographer, son of Croatian cinematographer Slavko Zalar. Zalar began making films as an amateur at the Kino Klub Zagreb, before going on to study cinematography at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague in 1968. He graduated in 1973 and made several short films, before shooting his first feature film in 1974, Rajko Grlić's ''Whichever Way the Ball Bounces'' (''Kud puklo da puklo''), which was originally shot on 16 mm film and later transferred to 35 mm. Mirjana Karanović ( sr-cyr, Мирјана Карановић; born 28 January 1957) is a Serbian actress, film director and screenwriter. Murder Of The Zec Family
The murder of the Zec family occurred in Zagreb, Croatia on 7 December 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence, when a squad of five Croatian militiamen shot dead three members of a Serb family: Mihajlo Zec, his wife Marija, and their 12-year-old daughter, Aleksandra. Two other Zec children escaped. The murderers were apprehended, but released after a controversial court decision in 1992. After a long period of apparent negligence and cover-up, the Zec family murder was never addressed by the Croatian legal system, but the government agreed to compensate the surviving family members in a 2004 court settlement. The main perpetrators of this murder were given prison sentences on separate crimes. Alma Prica (born 17 September 1962) is a Croatian actress. She graduated from the Zagreb Academy of Drama Arts in 1985 and then joined the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb (HNK Zagreb) in 1986. Vanja Drach (1 February 1932 – 6 September 2009) was a Croatian theatre and film actor. Ljubomir Kerekeš (born 16 January 1960) is a Croatian film, theatre and television actor. Life and work Kerekeš began acting in 1980 in his hometown of Varaždin and between 1982 and 1996 was a member of the theatre ensemble at the Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin.
