Sven Nyhus
Sven Nyhus (May 21, 1932 – May 20, 2023) was a Norwegian folk musician, fiddler, composer and musicologist. He was born in Røros; the son of construction worker and fiddler Peder Nyhus, and the father of Harding fiddler Åshild Breie Nyhus and pianist Ingfrid Breie Nyhus. Among his collections are ''Pols i Røros-tradisjon'' from 1973 and ''Felklang på Rørosmål'' from 1983. Among his albums are ''Bergrosa'' from 1984 and ''Grimen'' from 1997. He was appointed professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music from 1989 to 2002. Røros
Røros ( sma, Plaassja, ) is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Røros. Some of the villages in Røros include Brekken, Glåmos, Feragen, Galåa, and Hitterdalen. The mining town of Røros (the administrative centre of the municipality) is sometimes called ''Bergstaden'' which means "mountain town" due to its historical notoriety for copper mining. It is one of two towns in Norway that were historically designated "mining towns", along with the "silver-town" of Kongsberg. The modern-day inhabitants of Røros still work and live in the characteristic 17th and 18th century buildings which led to its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. The Norwegian Academy of Music (Norwegian: ''Norges musikkhøgskole'', NMH) is a university-level music conservatory located in Oslo, Norway, in the neighbourhood of Majorstuen, Frogner. Ã…shild Breie Nyhus (born 27 January 1975 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian musician (Hardanger fiddle, violin, viola and nyckelharpa) who plays folk music and classical music, the daughter of fiddler Sven Nyhus and the older sister of pianist Ingfrid Breie Nyhus. Career Nyhus graduated from the Barratt Due Institute of Music and Norwegian Academy of Music. She is the daughter of folk musician Sven Nyhus and since the middle of the 1990s, was a member of his folk music orchestra, Sven Nyhus sekstett. From 1999, she was part of the Oslo-Filharmonien, first as first violinist, and later as third violaist. She later played in the Det Norske Kammerorkester. As a folk musician, she was soloist on Hardanger fiddle and nyckelharpa, with the Oslo-Filharmonien, Det Norske Kammerorkester, Norwegian Radio Orchestra and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, among others. Ingfrid Breie Nyhus
Ingfrid Breie Nyhus (born 26 September 1978) is a Norwegian pianist, the daughter of fiddler Sven Nyhus and the younger sister of fiddler Åshild Breie Nyhus. Career Ingfrid Breie Nyhus plays and creates folk, contemporary and classical music on the piano. She has studied piano at Norwegian Academy of Music, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover. In 1999 she won the Ungdommens Pianomesterskap (The Norwegian Youth piano championship] and also received the award for her interpretation of Geirr Tveitt. In 2005 she was the first recipient of Den norske solistpris (The Norwegian Soloist Award) when it was awarded for the first time during the Festspillene i Bergen. Spellemannprisen, often referred to as the Norwegian Grammy Awards in English, is a Norwegian music award presented to Norwegian musicians. The award was established by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an organization that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide. First awarded in 1973, the prize honours musicians from the previous year; it is still awarded annually, usually in January or February. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works. Early life, education and marriage He was born in Larvik as the son of school inspector Hermann Olai Helle (1893–1973) and teacher Berta Marie Malm (1906–1991). He was the older brother of politician Ingvar Lars Helle. The family moved to Hetland when Knut Helle was seventeen years old.
