Sutter Home Winery is one of the largest family-run independent wineries in the United States, and is the estate known for the creation of White Zinfandel. History In 1874 the Swiss-German immigrant John Thomann established a small winery and distillery in St. Helena in central Napa County, California. As with most Napa Valley wineries, Sutter Home was shut down during Prohibition. Sutter Health is a not-for-profit integrated health delivery system headquartered in Sacramento, California. It operates 24 acute care hospitals and over 200 clinics in Northern California. Sutter Hospital Association was founded in 1921 as a response to the 1918 flu pandemic. Named for nearby Sutter's Fort, its first hospital opened in 1923. Sutter's Mill
Sutter's Mill was a water-powered sawmill on the bank of the South Fork American River in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in California. It was named after its owner John Sutter. A worker constructing the mill, James W. Marshall, found gold there in 1848. This discovery set off the California Gold Rush (1848–1855), a major event in the history of the United States. The mill was later reconstructed in the original design and today forms part of Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park in Coloma, California. Sutterville, California
Sutterville (also, Sutter, Sutter City, and Suttersville) is a former settlement in Sacramento County, California. It was located on the Southern Pacific Railroad south-southwest of Sacramento, John A. Sutter had Lansford W. Hastings and John Bidwell lay out the town in 1844, south of his embarcadero on a low bluff overlooking the Sacramento River. In exchange, Hastings and Bidwell both received a share of the lots. It was in this settlement that George Zins built one of the first brick structures in California in 1847. When the town of Sacramento developed at his embarcadero, Sutterville fell into decline. Sutter Pointe, California is a proposed planned community in Sutter County, approximately 4 miles north of the City of Sacramento. Sutter Pointe is the largest development in Sutter County and would accommodate 47,000 to 49,000 people over a 20 to 30-year build-out. The plan calls for 17,500 homes, 20,000 jobs, of employment designated uses, and of community service uses, which includes parks, schools, open space and other community facilities. Sutter Creek (formerly spelled Sutter's Creek and Suttercreek; formerly named Suttersville) is a city in Amador County, California, United States. John Augustus Sutter (February 23, 1803 – June 18, 1880), born Johann August Sutter and known in Spanish as Don Juan Sutter, was a Swiss immigrant of Mexican and American citizenship, known for establishing Sutter's Fort in the area that would eventually become Sacramento, California, the state's capital.
