Sushma Shimkhada
Sushma Shimkhada was a Nepali sculptor who received the Mahakavi Devakota Award in fine arts from the government of Nepal in 2015. Early life and education Born in 1936 in Darkha, a remote village 80 miles northwest of Kathmandu, Shimkhada is the seventh child of Kausalya Devi and Ratna Prasad Shimkhada. She grew up in Darkha and moved to Kathmandu with her parents in 1958. Shimkhada initially went to Baroda to study photography but finally studied sculpture under several sculptors at the Faculty of Fine Arts, including the notable Sankho Chaudhuri. Shimkhada earned a certificate in photography in 1969 and a certificate in sculpture in 1971 from the M.S. University of Baroda. Then Shimkhada returned to Kathmandu in 1971 to practice and teach art to children at Bal Mandir and the Lalitkala campus for a short time. Thakur Prasad Mainali
Thakur Prasad Mainali is a Nepalese artist and sculptor, known as a pioneer of Nepali modern art. He previously served as the chief of arts and craft department of the Royal Nepal Academy and served as Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts. He is married to Indira Mainali and has five children, Lata Kaini, Laya Mainali, Meena Upreti, Rachana Rimal and Reecha Rijal. Education and early career Born in 1934 to Ram Prasad Mainali and Indra Maya Mainali at Walting, Kavre, Thakur Prasad Mainali went to India to study sculpture. He studied sculpture under Sankho Chaudhuri, a noted Indian artist, at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. After graduating in Fine Arts, he returned to Kathmandu in 1963 and helped found Nepal Association of Fine Arts (NAFA) in 1965 with Crown Prince Birendra Bir Bikram Shah as its Chairman. Manjul Baraili
Manjul Baraili (born 1980) is an artist and sculptor from Nepal. He has carved more than 2000 statues which includes the statue of Bindabasini at Kathmandu, statue of Phalgunanda in Terahatum, and Bhanubhakata in Jhapa. He has also carved buddha statue in Kuwamoto, Japan. He has received National Youth Talent Award by Nepal Government in 2072BS. Biography Baraili was born on 11 February 1980 in Mikaljong village of Morang District in Nepal to father Indra Bahadur Biswakarma and mother Sarita Biswakarma. While he was in junior school, he was inspired by Araniko after reading the biography and started sculpturing stones. Later, he renamed himself as Majul Miteri.
