Surinamese National Junior Badminton Championships
Surinamese National Junior Badminton Championships is a yearly organized event by the Surinaamse Badminton Bond (SBB) the Sport governing body, governing body for the sport of badminton in Suriname, to crown the best National badminton junior players in Suriname. It was locally called the "Open Jeugdkampioenschappen van Suriname". The tournament started in 1968 and is held every year, except for the years 1971 and 1989 when no National championships were held. Since the year 1996 the National Championships of Suriname is divided between the different age categories for junior players Under-19 (U-19) years, Under 17 (U-17) years, Under 15 (U-15) years and Under 13 (U-13) years. In 2001 the Under 11 (U-11) age category was added. Furthermore a Surinamese National Badminton Championships, National Championships for adults is also organized every year since 1966. Virgil Soeroredjo
Virgil Soeroredjo (born 11 March 1985) is a former Surinamese badminton player and now coach. He competed for Suriname at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He also competed for Suriname at 3 Pan Am Games: the 2003 Pan American Games, the 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a young badminton player of the club SCVU in Suriname Virgil Soeroredjo won numerous juniors titles and was soon selected to represent his country abroad winning several juniors medals at Caribbean, Central American and South American events. Much of his success was with his doubles partner Mitchel Wongsodikromo. Multiple Caribbean and Pan Am Juniors badminton champion Together they grew up to become a badminton force for Suriname in the Pan Am region. In 2000 they won the Pan Am Boys Doubles U-17 juniors title at Cuba after they had already won the Caribbean Boys Doubles titles U-17 & U-19 the same year at Barbados. Sören Opti
Sören Hans Brad Opti (born 16 May 1997) is a badminton player from Suriname. He is an Olympian, respresenting Suriname at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He was also selected to represent his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but due to a positive Covid-test had to stay home. In the 2016 Olympics Opti was the flagbearer for Suriname during the opening ceremony. Opti participated at the 2014 and 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games. Career After winning many National and Regional junior titles, he became Surinamese National Champion Men's Singles in 2016 and retained this title in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Crystal Leefmans
Crystal Leefmans (born 6 January 1995) is a Surinamese badminton player. In 2010, she won the bronze medals at the Medellín South American Games in the mixed doubles and team event. In 2011, she won the mixed doubles title at the Carebaco International tournament in the individuals event of the Carebaco Games partnered with Mitchel Wongsodikromo. Leefmans was also the champion at the Suriname International tournament in 2012 and 2013. In 2018 she won the mixed doubles Carebaco International title again at home, this time partnering compatriot Dylan Darmohoetomo. She was the flagbearer for Suriname at the 2011 Pan Am Games. Dylan Darmohoetomo
Dylan Darmohoetomo (born 22 December 1992) is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. He is a member of the Surinamese badminton club Perfect Flying Feathers (P.F.F.). He was the flagbearer for Suriname at the 2019 Pan Am Games Career Already in 2001 Dylan won the National junior Mixed Doubles title followed in 2002 by the National Boys Doubles U-11 & U-13 titles. Many more junior titles followed in the years there after. Most of his Boys Doubles junior titles were with his friend and long time doubles partner Irfan Djabar. In 2007 Dylan became the National U-19 Boys Singles champion of Suriname. Dylan took the Pan Am Juniors 2009 Bronze medal Boys Doubles U-19. He won a silver medal as runner-up at the South American Juniors Championships 2010 in the U-19 category in Teresina, Brazil. Gilmar Jones
Gilmar Jones (born 21 January 1986) is a Surinamese badminton player and national coach of the Surinamese badminton team. In 2015 and 2017, he became the champion in men's doubles event at the Surinamese National Badminton Championships. He is the current National mixed doubles champion of Suriname. He first won the mixed doubles title in 2017 with Priscille Tjitrodipo, and retained the National Surinamese title the following two years with different partners in 2018 with Rugshaar Ishaak and in 2019 with Anjali Paragsingh. His biggest international achievement to date is winning the Caribbean title in Men's Doubles with Dylan Darmohoetomo in 2016 at the Carebaco International in Aruba. Mitchel Arthur Wongsodikromo (born 26 August 1985) is a Surinamese badminton player and coach. He competed for Suriname at three Pan Am Games: 2003 Pan American Games, 2007 Pan American Games & the 2011 Pan American Games. As a very young badminton player of the club T.N.F.
