Sören Opti
Sören Hans Brad Opti (born 16 May 1997) is a badminton player from Suriname. He is an Olympian, respresenting Suriname at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He was also selected to represent his country at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, but due to a positive Covid-test had to stay home. In the 2016 Olympics Opti was the flagbearer for Suriname during the opening ceremony. Opti participated at the 2014 and 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games. Career After winning many National and Regional junior titles, he became Surinamese National Champion Men's Singles in 2016 and retained this title in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In 2016 and 2018 he was runner-up at the Carebaco International. In 2016 he reached the semi-finals at the Chile International and the Santo Domingo Open. He competed at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. Suriname At The 2019 Pan American Games
Suriname competed at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru from July 26 to August 11, 2019. The Suriname team consisted of six athletes (five men and one woman) competing in four sports. Triple jumper Miguel Van Assen had to withdraw from the team due to injury. During the 2019 Pan American Games opening ceremony, opening ceremony of the games, badminton player Dylan Darmohoetomo carried the flag of the country as part of the 2019 Pan American Games Parade of Nations, parade of nations. Badminton At The 2019 Pan American Games
Badminton competitions at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were held between July 29 and August 2, 2019 at the Polideportivo 3, which also hosted the roller sports (artistic) and table tennis competitions. Five medal events were contested: singles and doubles for men and women and a mixed doubles event. A total of 88 athletes from 22 nations competed. A total of five NOC's won medals. Surinamese National Junior Badminton Championships
Surinamese National Junior Badminton Championships is a yearly organized event by the Surinaamse Badminton Bond (SBB) the Sport governing body, governing body for the sport of badminton in Suriname, to crown the best National badminton junior players in Suriname. It was locally called the "Open Jeugdkampioenschappen van Suriname". The tournament started in 1968 and is held every year, except for the years 1971 and 1989 when no National championships were held. Since the year 1996 the National Championships of Suriname is divided between the different age categories for junior players Under-19 (U-19) years, Under 17 (U-17) years, Under 15 (U-15) years and Under 13 (U-13) years. Matthew Abela (born 18 March 1999) is a Maltese badminton player affiliated with Paola badminton club. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Badminton at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's singles, Men's singles. He is seven times Maltese National Badminton Championships, Maltese National champion. Career Abela started playing badminton when he was 5 years old and his father, who is a coach, used to bring him to training sessions. He trained at the Paola badminton club, and entered the Maltese national team since 2011. Shi Yuqi (; Mandarin pronunciation: ; born 28 February 1996) is a Chinese badminton player. Shi Yuqi won his first Superseries title in the 2016 French Open.
