The Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association () is an association of Supreme Court lawyers in Bangladesh. History The Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association issued a statement expressing concern over the construction of Farakka Barrage by India near the border and preventing the flow of water to Bangladesh in February 1976. In 1987, the President of association was detained and placed in Dhaka Central Jail as part of a wider crackdown on dissent against the dictatorship of President Hussain Mohammad Ershad. In 1999, President of the association, Habibul Islam Bhuiyan, moved a petition in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court alleging statements of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was contemptuous of the court. On 2 March 2005, Chief Justice of Bangladesh J. R. Mudassir Husain and other judges of the Supreme Court boycotted the break-up party of the association. Surendra Kumar Sinha
Surendra Kumar Sinha (born 1 February 1951), commonly known as SK Sinha is a Bangladeshi lawyer and jurist who served as the 21st Chief Justice of Bangladesh. He resigned from the position in November 2017 amid the 16th amendment verdict controversy. Early life and education Sinha was born in a Kshatriya Family in the present-day Tilakpur village in Kamalganj, Moulvibazar District in 1951 to Bishnupriya Manipuri parents, Lalit Mohan Sinha and Dhanabati Sinha. He obtained his bachelor of laws degree in 1974 from the Sylhet Law College. Career Sinha enrolled as an advocate of the District Court, Sylhet in 1974 and practiced in that court under the guidance of two civil and criminal lawyers and conducted sessions trial cases independently till the end of 1977. Abu Mohammad Amin Uddin (known as A. M. Amin Uddin; born 29 September 1962) is a Bangladeshi lawyer, the 14th Attorney General of Bangladesh as well as President of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association Executive Committee 2020 - 2021 for the second consecutive term. Background Uddin was born in Kulaura Upazila, Moulvibazar District in the then East Pakistan. He completed his HSC from Dhaka City College and bachelors from Dhaka University. Abdul Matin Khasru
Abdul Matin Khasru (12 February 1950 – 14 April 2021) was a Bangladeshi lawyer and politician. He was a Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Comilla-5 constituency during 1991–1995, 1996–2001 and 2009–2021. He served in the first Hasina cabinet as Minister of Law and Justice from 1997 until 2001. Personal life Khasru completed his SSC from Madhabpur High School in 1967. He got admitted to Comilla Victoria Government College and completed graduation in 1970. They were four brothers and three sisters of whom he was the eldest. His father served in the Pakistan Army. Bangladesh Bar Council
Bangladesh Bar Council is a statutory autonomous body in Bangladesh, established under the Legal Practitioners and the Bar Council Order. It is the licensing and regulatory body for lawyers in Bangladesh. The bar council can establish tribunals to investigate and prosecute complaints against lawyers. In 2019 there were five such tribunals. A tribunal may reprimand or suspend a lawyer or remove them from practice. It dealt with 378 complaints from 2014 to 2018. Nine lawyers have lost their license permanently and 6 were suspended for a limited period of time.
