"Superfast Jellyfish" is the second single released from British alternative band Gorillaz' third studio album, ''Plastic Beach''. The single was released on 9 May 2010. Background The song features vocals from Gruff Rhys, lead singer of Super Furry Animals, and from De La Soul, who were previously featured on "Feel Good Inc.". The song contains samples from a 1986 commercial for Swanson's microwave "Great Starts Breakfasts" and an episode of ''Natural World'', "Sperm Whales: Back from the Abyss", narrated by David Attenborough. Release history The track premiered on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe show on 25 February 2010. About an hour later, it was uploaded to the official Gorillaz YouTube channel. The first official remix of the track, by Unicorn Kid, was premiered on BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe show on 12 April 2010. Gorillaz
Gorillaz are an English virtual band formed in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, from London. Stephen Sedgwick is a British mix engineer best known for his work with Damon Albarn and Gorillaz. He is based at Studio 13 in West London. Career Stephen began his career in 2002 at London's Pierce Rooms. It was at Pierce Rooms in 2004, while working on the second Gorillaz studio album Demon Days, where Stephen first met Damon Albarn. In 2006, Damon invited Stephen to work at the first incarnation of Studio 13 and in 2010 Stephen was appointed Head Engineer at the current location near Ladbroke Grove. Howie Weinberg is an American audio mastering engineer with over 2,257 mastering credits, three TEC Awards, 21 Grammy Awards, two Juno Awards, and one Mercury Prize. Career Weinberg mastered Herbie Hancock's 1983 album ''Future Shock''. Other mastering works include the Beastie Boys' ''Licensed to Ill'' and Nirvana's ''Nevermind''. Evil Nine are an English electronic music duo comprising members Tom Beaufoy and Patrick Pardy. Their musical style is primarily classified as breakbeat, although it additionally encompasses other influences. Biography The duo first came together in 1998 after meeting in Brighton. After sending in a demo cassette they were signed by Adam Freeland to his Marine Parade record label, with their first release being the single "Less Stress". According to Beaufoy (in an interview given to Fabric Nightclub) part of the reason that their demo cassette tape was actually listened to rather than thrown away (by 1998 cassettes had become virtually obsolete in favour of CDs) was because of their friendship with Jemma Griffiths, who worked for Marine Parade at the time. Jamie Christopher Hewlett (born 3 April 1968) is an English comic book creator, illustrator, music video director, and songwriter. He is the co-creator of the comic book ''Tank Girl'' with Alan Martin and co-creator of the virtual band Gorillaz, alongside Blur frontman Damon Albarn. Biography Early life Brought up in Horsham, West Sussex, Jamie Hewlett was a pupil at Tanbridge House School, a local co-educational source comprehensive for pupils aged 11–16 years. Oliver Sabin (born 5 November 1991), formerly known as Unicorn Kid, is a Scottish electronic music/chip music composer and musician from Edinburgh, educated at Leith Academy. When asked about the name of the act, Sabin stated, "There’s no real story behind the name, it just kind of came about and fitted in with the fun, magical nature of the music." Sabin has had a number of BBC Radio 1 appearances including an early live session on the Vic Galloway BBC Radio 1 show and a BBC Maida Vale Studios session for Rob da Bank.
