Super League Grand Final
The Super League Grand Final is the championship-deciding game of rugby league's Super League competition. It is played between two teams who have qualified via the Super League Play-Off series. The winning team receives the Super League Trophy and goes on to play the NRL champions in the World Club Challenge. The Harry Sunderland Trophy is awarded to the man of the match. The match is normally played at Old Trafford in Greater Manchester. Only 4 clubs have won the Super League, as of 2022 - St Helens (10), Leeds Rhinos (8), Wigan Warriors (5), and Bradford Bulls (4). (St Helens and Bradford Bulls each won one of their Super League titles before the Play Off and Grand Final system was introduced in 1998). 2017 Super League Grand Final
The 2017 Super League Grand Final was the 20th official Grand Final championship-deciding game of the Super League XXII. It was held at Old Trafford, Manchester on 7 October 2017, kick off 18.00. Leeds Rhinos became champions for a record 8th time after beating Castleford Tigers 24–6 in front of a sell out crowd of 72,827. Background Route to Final Castleford Tigers Finishing top of the table in the regular season, Castleford qualified directly to the play-off semi-final where they met St Helens at home. The game went to golden point extra time before a Luke Gale drop goal gave Castleford the win 23–22. Leeds Rhinos Leeds also had direct qualification to the semi-final where they hosted Hull F.C. at Headingley. In another close game it was Leeds who triumphed 18–16. The Rugby Football League Championship First Division was the top division of rugby league in England between 1895 and 1996, when it was replaced by the Super League. Rugby League Writers' Association
The Rugby League Writers' Association is made up from accredited members of the English news media who write about rugby league in newspapers or present for television and radio programmes. Members of the Association who are present at the Challenge Cup Final decide which player should be awarded the Lance Todd Trophy for being man of the match. Kevin Sinfield
Kevin Sinfield (born 12 September 1980) is the defence coach for the England national rugby union team. He is a former professional rugby league footballer, captain and director of rugby for the Leeds Rhinos. Sinfield also represented England national rugby league team, England and Great Britain national rugby league team, Great Britain. His usual position was , although he played both and on occasion. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest kickers in rugby league history.
