Sunita Dangol
Sunita Dangol ( ne, सुनिता डंगोल, born 18 May 1993) is a Nepalese politician, Newa heritage conservationist, language activist, and media professional. She is currently serving as the deputy mayor of Kathmandu metropolitan city, the capital city of Nepal. She assumed office on 30 May 2022, alongside mayor Balen Shah. Biography Dangol was born to father Satu Dangol and mother Sangita Dangol in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 2011, she won the Miss Newa pageantry. Before being elected as the deputy mayor of Kathmandu, she was active as a Newa heritage conservationist and indigenous–script ( Ranjana) activist. 2022 Kathmandu municipal election Dangol initially declared her candidacy for the position of Mayor as an independent candidate for the 2022 Kathmandu municipal election. Mayor Of Kathmandu
The mayor of Kathmandu is the head of the municipal executive of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The officeholder is elected for a five-year term and limited to serving no more than two terms. The role was first created in 1932 during the Rana regime. The current mayor is Balendra Shah, who was elected in the 2022 election and took office on 30 May 2022. The position has been held by fifteen people in a permanent capacity since its creation. Online Khabar is an independent private online news portal of Nepal established in 2006, providing news in Nepali and English languages. There is no print available from this media house. In 2014, it was one of the top 10 web news portal in Nepal. By 2020, it became the most viewed news portal from Nepal. The rise in online viewing of online newspapers including Online Khabar has been partially attributed to the Gorkha earthquake of 2015 during which the print media had stopped. Keshav Sthapit
Keshav Sthapit is a former mayor of Kathmandu metropolitan city. He also held the position of minister in Bagmati Pradesh and is a former member of the province's Assembly. Keshav Sthapit was elected as the mayor of Kathmandu in 1997. After the royal takeover in 2005, he was appointed the Mayor of Kathmandu by King. In year 2005 he was top finalist for world best mayor. After the return of democracy, he was appointed as a Commissioner of Kathmandu Valley Development Authority after joining Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) but was removed from the post after only nine months. 2022 Kathmandu Municipal Election
Municipal election for Kathmandu took place on 13 May 2022, with all 162 positions up for election across 32 wards. The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 32 ward chairs and 128 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive.
