Summerside Capitals
The Summerside Western Capitals are a Junior "A" hockey team based out of Summerside, Prince Edward Island. They play out of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. The team currently plays their home games at the Consolidated Credit Union Place. Until 2007 the team played at the former Cahill Stadium. History The Hemphill Pontiac Western Capitals began in the Island Junior Hockey League. Summerside is in the Western end of the province, & sometimes referred to as 'The Western Capital', thus the reference to 'western' in the original team name. The Capitals joined the MJAHL in 1991. They hosted the Centennial Cup 1989 on behalf of the IJHL. Summerside is a Canadian city in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is the second largest city in the province and the primary service centre for the western part of the island. History Summerside was officially incorporated as a town on April 1, 1877. On April 1, 1995, the Town of Summerside amalgamated with the incorporated communities of St. Eleanors and Wilmot. Vernon Vipers
The Vernon Vipers are a junior "A" ice hockey team based in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. They are members of the Interior Conference of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). They play their home games at Kal Tire Place. History The Vernon Jr. Canadians, Penticton Jr. Vees, Kelowna Buckaroos and Kamloops Rockets, four junior "B" teams, formed the Okanagan-Mainline Junior Hockey League in 1961 on the advice and determination of Canadians owner Bill Brown. After their inaugural season the Canadians changed their name to "Vernon Blades" and kept that name until the start of the 1967–68 season. Brett Gallant (born December 28, 1988) is a Canadians, Canadian professional ice hockey player who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League (AHL). Playing career Gallant played junior hockey with the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League (MJAHL). Nathan McIver
Nathan McIver is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played major junior in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) where he was drafted 254th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. McIver played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks. He is known as an agitator and a fighter. Kent Douglas Paynter (born April 27, 1965) is a Canadian former ice hockey player. Paynter played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1985 to 1998. Playing career Junior hockey Kitchener Rangers (1982-1985) Paynter joined the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL in 1982-83 after he was drafted by the club in the 3rd round, 44th overall, during the 1982 OHL Priority Selection. In his first season with the Rangers, Paynter scored four goals and 15 points in 65 games, helping Kitchener finish second in the Emms Division. In the post-season, Paynter scored a goal in 12 games. Geoff Walker (born December 9, 1987) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey right wing who most notably played in the American Hockey League (AHL). Darryl Boyce (born July 7, 1984) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey forward. He played with the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career Boyce's playing career got a kick start when he helped the Summerside Turk's Red Wings win an Island Junior Hockey League championship as an underage player in 1999–2000. Gerard Gallant (born September 2, 1963) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former player. He is the current head coach of the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL). Darren Michael Langdon (born January 8, 1971) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former professional player. Undrafted, he signed his first professional contract in 1993 with the New York Rangers. After retiring from the NHL, Langdon coached a former team, the Corner Brook Royals of the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League, until the team folded in the summer of 2016.
