''Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams'' is a 1973 American Technicolor drama film directed by Gilbert Cates, starring Joanne Woodward, Martin Balsam, Sylvia Sidney, and Tresa Hughes, and written by Stewart Stern. Gilbert Cates
Gilbert Cates (né Katz; June 6, 1934 – October 31, 2011) was an American film director and television producer, director of the Geffen Playhouse, a member of Cates/Doty Productions, and founding dean of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. Cates is most known for having produced the Academy Awards telecast a record 14 times between 1990 and 2008. Personal life Cates was born Gilbert Katz in New York City, the son of Jewish parents Nina (née Peltzman) and Nathan Katz, who was a dress manufacturer. He attended DeWitt Clinton High School, and graduated from Syracuse University. Dori Brenner
Dori Brenner (born Dori Levine; December 16, 1946 - September 16, 2000) was an American actress. She was born in Manhattan, and went to Sarah Lawrence College and the Yale School of Drama. Her oldest sister was award-winning author Ellen Levine. Her other sister, Mada Levine Liebman, was a senior advisor to US Senators Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine. Minerva Pious (March 5, 1903 – March 16, 1979) was an American radio, television and film actress. She was best known as the malaprop-prone Pansy Nussbaum in Fred Allen's famous "Allen's Alley" current-events skits. In his book, ''Treadmill to Oblivion'', Allen called Pious "the most accomplished woman dialectitian ever to appear in radio." Early years Minnie Pious, as she was originally known, was born in Odessa, Russian Empire, and moved to the United States with her parents when she was 2 years old, becoming a U.S. citizen in 1918 through her naturalized citizen father. Nancy Andrews (December 16, 1920 – July 29, 1989) was an American stage and film actress and singer. Early life Andrews was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on December 16, 1920. Her parents were James Currier Andrews and Grace Ella Andrews (née Gerrish). She attended Beverly Hills High School and the Los Angeles City College. She also studied at the Pasadena Playhouse and the American Shakespeare Academy. Stage work Andrews started her career as a cabaret singer and pianist. Her first stage appearance was in 1938 in a production of ''The Merry Wives of Windsor'' at the Beverly Hills Shakespeare Theatre.
