Summer Days With Coo
is a 2007 Japanese animated film about a kappa and its impact on an ordinary suburban family, written for the screen and directed by Keiichi Hara based on two novels by Masao Kogure. Plot Following a dreadful encounter with a samurai, a young kappa's father is murdered. As he cries, the ground opens up and swallows him whole. 200 years later in modern day Tokyo, Kōichi Uehara is peer pressured by his friends to pick on the quiet Sayoko Kikuchi, whom they continue to call ugly. Kōichi winds up in a muddy ditch where he finds a stone and within it, the kappa. He takes him home to his family who are awestruck at having a real kappa in their home. They name the kappa Coo, as he has forgotten his real name, and he quickly warms up to the family, though Kōichi's younger sister Hitomi has a strong disdain for him, but slowly she too accepts him. Keiichi Hara
is a Japanese director of animated films. Biography What started Hara on his career as an animation creator was visiting an animation film company as part of his job hunting activities after graduating from Tokyo Designer Gakuin College (TDG). He recklessly left the tour, an act normally forbidden for visitors, and then begged an artistic director to give him a job. A few days later he returned with some continuity drawings he created, as requested. As a result, he was introduced to a commercial film studio. After working at the studio for eighteen months, he joined Shin-Ei Animation on the recommendation of the president Keijiro Kurokawa. At Shin-Ei he began working on a TV series '' Kaibutsu-kun'' as a production manager, then was moved to ''Doraemon''. There for the first time he took on the role of animation director. Zashiki-warashi
, sometimes also called , are spirit-like beings told about mostly in the Iwate Prefecture. They are said to be yokai that live in parlors or storage rooms, and that perform pranks, and that people who see one would be visited with good fortune. There are also legends of how they would bring fortune to families. They are also known from Kunio Yanagita's ''Tōno Monogatari'', ''Ishigami Mondō'', and stories about them appear in the 17th and 18th chapters of the ''Tōno Monogatari'' and the 87th chapter titled "Zashiki-warashi" of the ''Tōno Monogatari Shūi''. The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition. Based on judging by a jury of artistic peers, awards are given in four categories: Art (formerly called Non-Interactive Digital Art), Entertainment (formerly called Interactive Art; including video games and websites), animation, and manga.
