Summer Camp (band)
Summer Camp were a British indie pop duo, formed in October 2009 by married couple multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Warmsley and vocalist Elizabeth Sankey. They are signed to the Moshi Moshi label on which they have released all four of their full-length albums, as well as three EPs and a film soundtrack. Summer Camp's musical style has been described as "21st-century alt.pop", but also is influenced by 1960s girl groups and 1980s synthpop. The lyrics, written by Sankey, are often quite dark and deal with failed relationships, conflicts, treasure and teenage obsessions. Along with the band's artwork and music videos they also draw heavily from American culture from the 1960s–1980s. They started after recording a cover version of I Only Have Eyes for You, a song which Elizabeth had included on a mixtape given to Jeremy. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. In later years, the definition of ''indie pop'' has bifurcated to also mean bands from unrelated DIY scenes/movements with pop leanings. Subgenres include chamber pop and twee pop. Britpop
Britpop was a mid-1990s British-based music culture movement that emphasised Britishness. It produced brighter, catchier alternative rock, partly in reaction to the popularity of the darker lyrical themes of the US-led grunge music and to the UK's own shoegaze music scene. The movement brought British alternative rock into the mainstream and formed the backbone of a larger British popular cultural movement, Cool Britannia, which evoked the Swinging Sixties and the British guitar pop of that decade. Britpop was a media-driven focus on bands which emerged from the independent music scene of the early 1990s. ''Romantic Comedy'' is a 2019 British documentary film about romantic comedies, directed, edited and narrated by Elizabeth Sankey, whose band Summer Camp contributes songs. Sankey's bandmate Jeremy Warmsley co-produced and composed the film's original score. Synopsis The film features extracts from hundreds of films, including ''The Holiday'', ''When Harry Met Sally'', '' While You Were Sleeping'', ''The Big Sick'', ''Kissing Jessica Stein'' and ''The Broken Hearts Club''. The production made use of Fair Use guidelines to legally include these clips. Other contributors to the film include actor Jessica Barden, director Charlie Lyne, writers Laura Snapes, Anne T Donahue, Simran Hans, Cameron Cook, Brodie Lancaster and radio producer Eleanor McDowall. ''Beyond Clueless'' is a 2014 British documentary film about teen movies, directed by Charlie Lyne, narrated by Fairuza Balk and with an original soundtrack by Summer Camp. Summary The film features extracts from over 200 teen movies, with a particular emphasis on those released between 1995 and 2004. Stephen Street
Stephen Brian Street (born 29 March 1960 in Hackney, London) is an English music producer best known for his work with The Smiths, The Cranberries and Blur. Street collaborated with Morrissey on his debut album ''Viva Hate'' following the split of The Smiths. More recently he has worked with Kaiser Chiefs, Babyshambles and The Courteeners.
