Sultan Ismail Power Station
The Sultan Ismail Power Station is the largest gas turbine power station in Malaysia, Located in Paka, Terengganu approximately 100 km from the state capital, Kuala Terengganu. It generates 1,136 MW. The station is the first and still remains the largest plant of this combined cycle type in Tenaga Nasional. With a capacity of 1150 MW, it is the second largest power plant after Port Klang Power Station. The station uses natural gas as the main fuel. The gas is supplied by Petronas from its nearby gas processing plant. History The station was completed in 1987 and officially opened in 1988 by Almarhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah of Terengganu. Paka (est. pop. (2000 census): 10,599) is a coastal town facing the South China Sea in Dungun District, Terengganu, Malaysia. Paka is now a busy town thriving on oil and gas activity near Kerteh. Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Al-Haj (29 April 1930 – 14 May 1998) was the 17th Sultan of Terengganu from 21 September 1979 to 14 May 1998. Life Sultan Mahmud was born on 29 April 1930 in Kuala Terengganu. He was married to Sharifah Nong Fatima As-Saggoff binti Sayyid Abdullah As-Saggoff and Tengku Ampuan Bariah binti Almarhum Sultan Sir Hisamuddin Alam Shah, sister of late Sultan Selangor, Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in 1951. He was a cousin to the late Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah of Selangor. Twenty eight years later, his father Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah died in 1979. He was installed as the Sultan of Terengganu in 1981 and Tengku Ampuan Bariah became Tengku Ampuan Besar of Terengganu. Kerteh (est. pop. (2000 census): 3,064) is a mukim in Kemaman District, Terengganu, Malaysia. Economy Kerteh is the base of operations for Petronas in Terengganu, overseeing the oil platform operations off the state's coast as well as petrochemicals production, natural gas processing and crude oil refining.
