Suite On Finnish Themes
The ''Suite on Finnish Themes'' or Seven Arrangements of Finnish Folk Songs (Russian ''Семь обработок финских народных песен (Сюита на финские темы)'') is a suite composed in 1939 for soloists (soprano and tenor) and chamber ensemble in seven movements by the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–75). The composer later disowned the work, and the suite does not have an opus number. In 1939, before the Soviet forces were to invade Finland, the Party Secretary of Leningrad Andrei Zhdanov commissioned a celebratory piece from Shostakovich, a theme to be performed as the marching bands of the Red Army would be parading through the Finnish capital Helsinki. Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra
The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra (Finnish: ''Keski-Pohjanmaan Kamariorkesteri'') is an Musical ensemble, ensemble based in Kokkola, Western Finland. When configured as a larger symphony orchestra, reinforced with local musicians, the orchestra is referred to as the Kokkola Orchestra. The Organisation The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra was founded by Juha Kangas in 1972. The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra performs regularly at home and abroad, with foreign tours to Japan and other European countries, including the Mozart Festival Würzburg, Mozart Festival in Würzburg. The Orchestra performs music from the Baroque music, Baroque to the present. The orchestra has done important work as an ambassador of contemporary Finnish music. The collaboration with the composer Pehr Henrik Nordgren (1944–2008) between 1973 and his death was exceptionally fruitful.
