Sudanese Congress Party
The Sudanese Congress Party (SCP or SCoP) is a Sudanese centre-left, social democratic, pro- secular political party created in 1986 as ''National Congress'' (unrelated to the National Congress Party) and renamed as the SCP in 2005. Creation Khalid Omer Yousif, former secretary-general of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), describes the origin of the SCP in terms of three events: the 1977 creation of the Congress of Independent Students (CIS) at Khartoum University by students opposed to president Gaafar Nimeiry; the creation in 1986, following the 1985 Sudanese Revolution, of the ''National Congress'' political party led by Molana Abdel Majid Imam (unrelated to the Islamist, pan-Arabist National Congress Party); and the renaming of the ''National Congress'' to the ''Sudanese Congress Party'' in a 2005 conference between National Congress and CIS members and graduates. 2015 Sudanese General Election
General elections were held in Sudan on 13–16 April 2015 to elect the President and the National Assembly. They were originally scheduled for 2 April, but were delayed by eleven days. These were the first elections to be held following the secession of South Sudan. Incumbent President Omar al-Bashir won the presidential election by a landslide, amid a boycott from the majority of the opposition. The ruling National Congress of Sudan also won a majority in the 426 seat National Assembly. Electoral system The President was elected using the two-round system; if no candidate gained a majority of the vote in the first round, a run-off would have been held. Austerity is a set of political-economic policies that aim to reduce government budget deficits through spending cuts, tax increases, or a combination of both. There are three primary types of austerity measures: higher taxes to fund spending, raising taxes while cutting spending, and lower taxes and lower government spending. Radio Dabanga (Arabic: راديو دبنقا) is a shortwave radio station, TV and online news magazine, that serves Sudan with daily reports on the latest political, economic and social information, including health issues and social programs such as ''Lost and Found''. The shortwave radio has been broadcasting since 1 December 2008. Current broadcasts last for a total of one hour each day. While Radio Dabanga only broadcast on shortwave radio for the first few years, the station now has several channels. The editors have innovated and experimented in the sphere of new media, often at the request of their listeners. These include Satellite TV, Facebook, WhatsApp, and SoundCloud. The National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) () is an intelligence agency of the Ethiopian federal government tasked with gathering information of national interests.
