Subodh Mitra
Dr. Subodh Mitra M.D., F.R.C.S., F.R.C.O.G. (1896-1961) was an eminent obstretrician and gynecologist in India. He is the founder of the "Mitra operation" for cervical cancer. Brief biography He was born on 1 November 1896 in Jessore (presently in Bangladesh). He graduated from the University of Calcutta in 1922. He saw the plight of female patients as an undergraduate and took up the Obstetrics and Gynecology as his career. He has gone to Germany and completed post graduation in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2 years. He got M.D. from Berlin University in 1924. He went to Edinburgh and did his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (F.R.C.S.) in 1925 and F.R.C.O.G. in 1928. He returned to India and started working in R. G. Subodh Oraon
Subodh Oraon (1953 – 5 December 1988), also written Subodh Barwa, was an Indian politician belonging to the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP). He was elected to the West Bengal Vidhan Sabha from the Kumargram constituency in the 1982 and 1987 elections. Subodh Sarkar ( bn, সুবোধ সরকার; born 1958 in Krishnanagar) is a Bengali poet, writer and editor, and a reader in English literature at City College, Kolkata. He is a recipient of the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award. Biography Subodh Sarkar, born in 1958, is a noted Indian Bengali poet, editor, translator and Associate Professor in English at City College, Calcutta University. His first book of poems was published in the late 70s. He received the West Bengal Bangla Academy Award for poetry in 2000. Subodh Roy (1915 – 26 August 2006) (also known as Jhunku Roy) was an Indian revolutionary socialist who was influential in the Indian independence movement, and a politician. Biography Subodh Roy was born in 1915 in a rich family at Chittagong in erstwhile-undivided Bengal. At the age of 14, he was the youngest participant in the Chittagong armoury raid in 1930-31 under the direction of the revolutionary leader Surya Sen (Masterda). Roy was in the first batch to be sentenced. After the trial, Subodh Roy was deported to the Cellular Jail in Port Blair in 1934. After the release from jail in 1940, he joined communist politics and became a member of the Communist Party of India. After the independence, he shifted to Calcutta and joined as a wholetimer at the Provincial Centre of the Party. Subodh Banerjee (1918 – 16 September 1974) was an Indian politician, belonging to the Socialist Unity Centre of India. He introduced the ''Gherao'' principle as a formal mode of protest in the trade union sector of India while being the Labour Minister in the 1967 United Front Government in West Bengal. He was the PWD minister in the 1969 United Front Government of West Bengal. His lasting contribution was the removal of all statutes of "guardians and rulers" of the British Indian empire from public places in Kolkata.
