Subhash Velingkar
Subhash Bhaskar Velingkar was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu nationalist organization in India, belonging to the Gomantak Maratha Samaj community. Goa Prant of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was formed under the leadership of Velingkar. He launched Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch an organization which promotes Konkani and Marathi in schools and the withdrawal of grants to English medium schools in the state of the Goa. Velingkar oppose the decision of the Digambar Kamat-led government to provide grants to primary level English schools which was opposed by Manohar Parrikar and other opposition leaders. After Bharatiya Janata Party-Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party alliance emerged victorious in the 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly election, they continued the grants which Velingkar opposed and subsequently dropped from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh as the Goa chief due to his decision to float a political party. Panaji
Panaji (; also known as Panjim) is the capital of the Indian state of Goa and the headquarters of North Goa district. Previously, it was the territorial capital of the former Portuguese India. It lies on the banks of the Mandovi river estuary in the Tiswadi sub-district ''(tehsil)''. Viresh Borkar
Viresh Mukesh Borkar (born 29 June 1993) is an Indian politician and businessman who serves as a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly and an executive member of the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), of which he was a founding member during its time as a non-governmental organization while serving as its president. In the 2022 Goa Legislative Assembly election, Borkar won the St. Andre Assembly constituency on the RGP ticket. Borkar won the RGP's first seat in the assembly by defeating four-time MLA and former sports minister Francisco Silveira of the Bharatiya Janata Party by a margin of 76 votes. Goa Inquisition
The Goa Inquisition ( pt, Inquisição de Goa) was an extension of the Portuguese Inquisition in Portuguese India. Its objective was to enforce Catholic Orthodoxy and allegiance to the Apostolic See of Rome (Pontifex). The inquisition primarily focused on the New Christians accused of secretly practicing their former religions, and Old Christians accused of involvement in the Protestant Revolution of the 16th century. It was established in 1560, briefly suppressed from 1774 to 1778, continued thereafter until it was finally abolished in 1812. Those targeted were predominately accused of crypto-Hinduism. Those accused were imprisoned and depending on the criminal charge, could even be sentenced to death if convicted. ''The Navhind Times'' is an English language newspaper in Goa. Founded in 1963 and based in Panaji, the capital of Goa, it is the largest selling newspaper, amongst the three locally published English newspapers in the state. The other two being'' O Heraldo (The Herald)'' and ''Gomantak Times'' successively. According to the newspaper, it has a 52% of overall share market of advertisement space in Goa. 2012 Goa Legislative Assembly Election
The Goa legislative assembly election was held on 3 March 2012, to select the 40 members of the Sixth Goa Legislative Assembly, as the term of Sixth Legislative Assembly ended on March 2012. The result was announced on 6 March. The Bharatiya Janata Party- Maharashtrawadi Gomantak alliance defeated the incumbent Indian National Congress government in Goa led by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat with 24 seats in the 40-seat assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 21 seats, while the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party won 3 seats.
