Singapore is governed as a unitary state without provinces or states. However, for the purposes of administration and urban planning, it has been subdivided in various ways throughout its history. Kebun Baru SMC
The Kebun Baru Single Member Constituency is a single member constituency in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. The current Member of Parliament for the constituency is Henry Kwek of the People's Action Party (PAP). History The original Kebun Baru SMC was carved from the now-defunct Ang Mo Kio Single Member Constituency in 1980. It was helmed by Lim Boon Heng throughout its first 11 years of existence. It was absorbed into the new Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC) prior to the 1991 general election. Ang Mo Kio GRC
The Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the north eastern region of Singapore. The constituency encompasses the majority of Ang Mo Kio (Teck Ghee, Cheng San-Seletar, portions of Yio Chu Kang), Seletar Hills, the northern half of Serangoon North, a portion of northern Hougang and a portion of Fernvale. The western portion consists of parts of the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, while in the northeastern corner, it borders the Straits of Johor with two reclaimed islands, Pulau Punggol Barat and Pulau Punggol Timor. The Hougang Single Member Constituency is a single member constituency (SMC) located in the north-eastern area of Singapore. Its current Member of Parliament is Dennis Tan Lip Fong of the Workers' Party (WP). History The constituency was first formed prior to the 1988 general election and was won by the People's Action Party (PAP) in its debut. However, PAP's representation of Hougang SMC would only last three years, when it lost the seat to Low Thia Khiang after an almost 12% swing to the Workers' Party (WP) during the 1991 general election. From 1991 to 2011, it was one of only two opposition-held (i.e. non-PAP) seats in Parliament. The new towns of Singapore are planned communities located across Singapore that are designed to be self contained. Designed to house up to 300,000 residents, these new towns contain areas zoned for housing, recreation and employment, and are composed of multiple neighbourhoods, each of which is further subdivided into multiple precincts. The Parliament of Singapore is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of Singapore, which governs the country alongside the president of Singapore.
