Whiteway, Newfoundland And Labrador
Whiteway is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The town had a population of 351 in the Canada 2021 Census. History Whiteway is located in a large open cove, known as Witless Bay. At the centre of the bay is Witless Rock, "a distinctive and jagged protrusion shown on English maps as early as 1775." The community was known as Witless or Witler's Bay, and was not settled until the mid-1800s. A family tradition maintains that a man named Burgess, who deserted the ship Royal Gazette at Crocker's Cove in about 1847, was the first permanent settler. Two families were living there in 1869, likely those of Charles Burgess and John Pottle. By 1874 there was a population of 31. Heart's Delight-Islington is a town on the south side of Trinity Bay in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, located on Newfoundland and Labrador Route 80. The Post Office was established in 1954. The first Postmistress was Maggie Chislett. Location The town is located on Route 80 between Cavendish and Heart's Desire. It is about 15 minutes from the Pitcher's Pond Golf Course, and 30 minutes from Carbonear in Conception Bay. Etymology There are severals stories about the origin of the name "Heart's Delight." Spaniard's Bay
Spaniard's Bay is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is located on the northwest side of Conception Bay and consists of Vokey's Shore, Northern Cove, Mint Cove, Green Head, and Goddenville. The name Spaniard's Bay came from the Basque and Portuguese fishermen who frequented the port in the 16th century and 17th century, and were referred to by the English as ‘Spaniards’. Occupation of the area was seasonal at first, as with most of Newfoundland, but gradually English fishermen began to make permanent homes in Spaniard's Bay around 1776. American Traders were visiting Spaniard's Bay before 1776 and they exchanged salt, rum, and tobacco for cod. SS ''Great Eastern'' was an iron sail-powered, paddle wheel and screw-propelled steamship designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and built by John Scott Russell & Co. at Millwall Iron Works on the River Thames, London. Heart's Content is an incorporated town in Trinity Bay on the Bay de Verde Peninsula of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Geography The natural harbour that makes up the town is located on the east side of Trinity Bay and it is built along the northeast side and the southeast base of this harbour.
