VIZ Media LLC is an American manga publisher, anime distributor and entertainment company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1986 as VIZ LLC. In 2005, VIZ LLC and ShoPro Entertainment merged to form the current VIZ Media LLC, which is owned by Japanese publishing conglomerates Shueisha and Shogakukan, as well as Japanese production company Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions, Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions (ShoPro). Sublime (band)
Sublime was an American reggae rock and ska punk band from Long Beach, California, formed in 1988. The band's line-up, consistent throughout its duration, consisted of Bradley Nowell (vocals and guitar), Eric Wilson (bass), and Bud Gaugh (drums). Lou Dog, Nowell's dalmatian, was the mascot of the band. Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, resulting in the band's breakup. ''Sublime'' is the third and final studio album by American ska punk band Sublime. Produced by Paul Leary and David Kahne, the album was released on July 30, 1996, in the United States by MCA Records. Sublime formed in 1988 in Long Beach, California by vocalist/guitarist Bradley Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh. The trio toured heavily from their inception while developing their sound. Their first studio release—'' 40 Oz. to Freedom'' (1992)—featured the single "Date Rape", which attracted heavy airplay in Southern California. MCA signed the band and distributed their second independent album, ''Robbin' the Hood'', in 1994. By the time it came to record their major label debut, Nowell had been struggling with a heroin addiction. ''Sublime'' is a 2007 psychological horror film directed by Tony Krantz and written by Erik Jendresen. It is the second straight-to-DVD "Raw Feed" horror film from Warner Home Video, released on March 13, 2007. The film stars Tom Cavanagh, Kathleen York, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, and Katherine Cunningham-Eves. Plot George Grieves checks into the Mt. Abaddon Hospital for a routine procedure only to find horrors await him. Sublime (previously Sublime FM) is a Dutch commercial radio station dedicated to jazz but which also plays soul, Latin jazz and lounge music. The station is owned by Exceed Jazz BV, a subsidiary of Exceed Holding. It is the sister station of Arrow Classic Rock. The sublime in literature refers to use of language and description that excites the senses of the reader to a degree that exceeds the ordinary limits of that individual's capacities. Origin The earliest text on the sublime was written sometime in the first or third century AD by the Greek writer (pseudo-) Longinus in his work On the Sublime (, ''Perì hýpsous''). Longinus defines the literary sublime as "excellence in language", the "expression of a great spirit" and the power to provoke "ecstasy" in one's readers. Longinus holds that the goal of a writer should be to produce a form of ecstasy. Longinus additionally defines the ideal audience for the sublime, which needs to be refined and cultivated.
