Strange Affair (1981 Film)
''Strange Affair'' (french: Une étrange affaire) is a 1981 French drama film directed by Pierre Granier-Deferre, and starring Michel Piccoli, Gérard Lanvin and Nathalie Baye. Novel The story was adapted from the novel of Jean-Marc Roberts ''Affaires étrangères'', which won in 1979 the Prix Renaudot. Plot Louis Coline (Gérard Lanvin) is an executive assistant in a declining Paris department store. While he is not ambitious and has little to do, he is content with his wife Nina (Nathalie Baye), visits to his mother and grandmother and nights out with his friends playing poker. However, the manipulative Bertrand Malair (Michel Piccoli) becomes the store's new manager, and arrives to shake up the company. Louis fears for his job, but Bertrand draws him into his inner circle of confidants. Bertrand starts to control Louis' life, while Louis is afraid of losing his privileged position. Pierre Granier-Deferre
Pierre Granier-Deferre (27 July 1927 – 16 November 2007) was a French film director and screenwriter His 1971 film ''Le Chat'' (The Cat) won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards at the 21st Berlin International Film Festival. His 1964 film ''The Adventures of Salavin'' won the Silver Shell for Best Actor at the 12th San Sebastian International Film Festival. Family Granier-Deferre married Annie Fratellini, who starred in his film '' La Métamorphose des cloportes''. They had one daughter, Valerie. He had two children with his second wife, Susan Hampshire, an English actress: a son, Christopher, a producer/director, and a daughter, Victoria, who died shortly after birth. The 32nd annual Berlin International Film Festival was held from 12–23 February 1982. The Golden Bear was awarded to the West German film ''Veronika Voss'' directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
