Stop Listening
"Stop Listening" is a song by British singer-songwriter Tanita Tikaram, which was released in 1998 as the lead single from her sixth studio album ''The Cappuccino Songs''. The song was written by Tikaram and Marco Sabiu, and produced by Sabiu. "Stop Listening" reached No. 67 on the UK Singles Chart and remained in the Top 100 for two weeks. "Stop Listening" was Tikaram's first recording for her new record label, Mother Records. Included as b-sides on the single are re-recorded "electronic" versions of her hit singles "Good Tradition" and "Twist in My Sobriety", and the previously unreleased "The Feeling Is Gone". In a 1998 Polydor press release, Tikaram described "Stop Listening" as being "about still loving somebody with whom you have nothing left in common, being pulled this way and that way. Tanita Tikaram
Tanita Tikaram (born 12 August 1969) is a British pop/folk singer-songwriter. She achieved chart success with the singles " Twist in My Sobriety" and " Good Tradition" from her 1988 debut album, ''Ancient Heart''. Background Tikaram was born in Münster, West Germany, the daughter of an Indo-Fijian British Army officer, Pramod Tikaram, and a Sarawakian mother, Fatimah Rohani. Her father's military career meant that she spent her early life in Germany before moving to Basingstoke, Hampshire, England when she was in her early teens. She is the younger sister of the actor Ramon Tikaram and the great-niece of Sir Moti Tikaram, who was the first Lord Chief Justice of an independent Fiji and the world's longest-serving national ombudsman. ''The Cappuccino Songs'' is the sixth studio album by British singer-songwriter Tanita Tikaram, released by Mother in 1998. Background In 1996, Tikaram left Warner Music Group, WEA, her label of eight years, and spent some time pursuing other interests than music, including art and travel. For her next studio album, Tikaram decided to re-evaluate her musical direction and reinvent her image. She signed to a new label, Mother Records, and found new management. On this album, Tikaram chose to work with Italian musician Marco Sabiu, who produced the album and co-wrote seven of the tracks. The two had first worked together in 1996, when Sabiu and his producing partner Charlie Mallozzi (known collectively as The Rapino Brothers) produced Tikaram's version of "And I Think of You - E penso a te", which was included on ''The Best of Tanita Tikaram''. Mother Records
Mother Records was a record label founded by the band U2 in 1983 and distributed by parent Island Records. As a supportive promotional platform, the label released several one-off single releases for The Hothouse Flowers, In Tua Nua and Cactus World News among others. History The label was registered on 19 October 1983, and subsequently launched on 1 August 1984 by U2. Initially the label released only 'one-off' single's promoting Irish artists. Marco Sabiu
Marco Sabiu (born 1 September 1963) is an Italian-born musician and composer who has worked with Take That, Kylie Minogue, Lydia Canaan, Barry Blue, Christopher Lee, and made music for television. Career Born in the village of Forlì in Romagna, Sabiu began playing piano at the age of nine, and at the age of fourteen joined the Conservatory of Pesaro. In 1991, he moved to London and began a production collaboration with Charlie Rapino, working with pop acts such as Take That, Kylie Minogue, and Lydia Canaan. In 1998, Sabiu started working solo with artists such as Tanita Tikaram, Perry Blake, Françoise Hardy, Filippa Giordano, Luciano Pavarotti, Ennio Morricone, and others. "E penso a te" (English: And I think of you) is a song composed in 1970 by Lucio Battisti based on the lyrics by Mogol. Initially sung by Bruno Lauzi, it was subsequently re-recorded by numerous other artists. The most popular version remains the one which its author gave in 1972. The song Meaning The lyrics recount the nostalgic thoughts of a man who is in love with a somewhat distant woman. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. "Good Tradition" is a song, written and originally recorded by British pop/folk singer-songwriter Tanita Tikaram, released as the first single from her debut album, ''Ancient Heart'' (1988). When it was released, it went largely unnoticed and attracted little media attention. The song therefore did not get much airplay, but weeks after its release, the single started climbing up the charts and finally reached #10 at the UK Singles Chart in August 1988. "Twist in My Sobriety" is a song written and performed by British singer-songwriter Tanita Tikaram. Released as a single in October 1988 from her debut album, ''Ancient Heart'' (1988), it was Tikaram's biggest international success, achieving top-10 placings in several European countries. The song reached number two in both Austria and West Germany. Its music video was directed by Gerard de Thame and filmed in Bolivia.
