The Connaught Tunnel is in southeastern British Columbia, on the Revelstoke–Donald segment. John Fox (railway Engineer)
John Fox, (1924 – 2001) was a Canadian civil engineer. He oversaw the Mount Macdonald Tunnel project at Rogers Pass in the Canadian Rockies, the crowning achievement of a 40-year career at Canadian Pacific Railway. The innovative 1.2 km John Fox Viaduct, just to the east of the Mount Shaughnessy Tunnel eastern portal is named after him. Early life Son of James Fox who came from England and operated a store in Huntingdon, Quebec, John Fox attended Huntingdon Academy and later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force as a pilot in World War II. After the war, he studied Civil Engineering at McGill University and married the former Janet Fraser of Dundee, Quebec in 1949, the same year that he joined the CPR. Glacier, British Columbia
Glacier, which once comprised small communities, is on the western approach to Rogers Pass in southeastern British Columbia. The name derives from the Great Glacier, which in the 1880s was just over a mile from the original train station. Initial settlement Glacier House To avoid hauling additional weight up the significant gradient, Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) parked a dining car at this location for a passenger train meal stop. Already ruled out were the summit, with its avalanche paths, and the steep river gorges of the eastern slope, which provided little space to develop facilities. Nicholas Everard Morant (29 June 1910 – 13 March 1999) was a Canadian photographer who produced iconic images of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Career Morant was the special photographer of the Canadian Pacific from 1929 until 1935, and then again from 1944 until his retirement in 1981. His work was especially influential in promoting tourism in Western Canada and the Canadian Rockies and included many images of the Canadian Pacific's flagship streamliner ''The Canadian''. One of Morant's favourite shooting locations is located in the Canadian Rockies East of Lake Louise, Alberta where the CPR mainline parallels the Bow River. The Lethbridge Viaduct, commonly known as the High Level Bridge, was constructed between 1907 and 1909 at Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada at a cost of $1,334,525. Overview This massive steel trestle over the Oldman River was designed by the Canadian Pacific Railway's bridge department in Montreal, Quebec. The field work was directed by CPR's Assistant Chief Engineer John Edward Schwitzer. The steel work was manufactured by the Canadian Bridge Company of Walkerville, Ontario. Young's High Bridge, also known as the Jo Blackburn Bridge, is a former railroad bridge near Tyrone, Kentucky, USA, that spans the Kentucky River between Anderson County, Kentucky and Woodford County, Kentucky for the Louisville Southern Railroad. The cantilever bridge, named in honor of William Bennett Henderson Young, was constructed in 1889, and the first train crossed over on August 24, 1889. Kinzua Viaduct
The Kinzua Bridge or the Kinzua Viaduct (, ) was a railroad trestle that spanned Kinzua Creek in McKean County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The bridge was tall and long. Most of its structure collapsed during a tornado in July 2003. Billed as the "Eighth Wonder of the World", the wrought iron original 1882 structure held the record for the tallest railroad bridge in the world for two years. In 1900, the bridge was dismantled and simultaneously rebuilt out of steel to allow it to accommodate heavier trains. It stayed in commercial service until 1959, when it was sold to a salvage company. In 1963 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania purchased the bridge as the centerpiece of a state park.
