Stompwijk
Stompwijk is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located between the cities Leiden and Zoetermeer and is part of the municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg. Stompwijk was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1938, when it merged with Veur to create the new municipality of Leidschendam. Leidschendam-Voorburg
Leidschendam-Voorburg () is a municipality in the western Netherlands, located in the province of South Holland. It had a population of in , and covers an area of of which is water. Origin The municipality of Leidschendam-Voorburg is the result of merging the municipalities Leidschendam and Voorburg in 2002. It consists of the two towns Leidschendam and Voorburg, which grew towards each other in the first half of the 20th century. The village Stompwijk and a hamlet called Wilsveen also belong to the municipality. Leidschendam-Voorburg abuts the city of The Hague and is often regarded as its suburb, even though it is an independent municipality. It is part of the Haaglanden conurbation. Stompwijk is still a rural village, located a few kilometres northeast of Leidschendam. Edwin Vurens
Edwin Vurens (born 6 June 1968) is a Dutch football manager who coaches Dutch amateur side Docos. Vurens is a former international player who played professionally as a striker for clubs in the Netherlands and Switzerland. Football career Playing Born in Stompwijk, Vurens played amateur football with Stompwijkse Boys and RKAVV, before signing a professional contract with Sparta Rotterdam. Vurens later played for FC Twente and Roda JC, before playing in Switzerland for FC St. Gallen and Servette FC. Vurens made one international appearance for the Netherlands national football team in 1995. Coaching After retiring as a player in 2002, Vurens has coached a number of Dutch amateur sides including FC Zoetermeer, VUC Den Haag and BVCB. Leidschendam
Leidschendam () is a town and former municipality in the province of South Holland of the Netherlands. Along with Voorburg and Stompwijk, it is part of the municipality Leidschendam-Voorburg. History The town's name has been in use for centuries and refers to the lock in the Vliet, near the historic city of Leiden. The settlement on the northern side of the lock was known as 'Veur', until the formation of the municipality of Leidschendam in 1938. This recent date belies the long history of human habitation in this area, which predates the Roman occupation two thousand years ago. Important driver for the development of the area was the Vliet canal, ferrying people and goods through Holland in the Middle Ages, and even in Roman times. Cees Juffermans
Cees Juffermans (born 10 February 1982) is a former Dutch Short track speed skater. Currently he is a marathon speed skater. Juffermans is one of the most renowned short track speed skaters the Netherlands has ever produced. At the 2001 European Championships, he won the silver medal and competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City where he was eliminated in the series at the 500 and 1000 metres. At the 1500 metres, he would reach the semi finals and would eventually finish in 8th place. His road to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin was not the easiest. Juffermans was nominated by the Dutch Speed Skating Association for both the 1000 and 1500 metres and only had to show he was in form prior to the Olympics at the Speed Skating World Cup meeting in The Hague. He was unable to do so and his 1000 metres ticket was given to Niels Kerstholt instead who did meet the qualifications to reach the Olympics. Leiden
Leiden (; in English and archaic Dutch also Leyden) is a city and municipality in the province of South Holland, Netherlands. The municipality of Leiden has a population of 119,713, but the city forms one densely connected agglomeration with its suburbs Oegstgeest, Leiderdorp, Voorschoten and Zoeterwoude with 206,647 inhabitants. Zoetermeer
Zoetermeer () is a city in the Western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality covers an area of of which is water. A small village until the late 1960s, it had 6,392 inhabitants in 1950. By 2013 this had grown to 123,328, making it the third largest population centre in the province of South Holland, after Rotterdam and The Hague. While now a city in its own right, Zoetermeer started out as a suburb of The Hague and is still a part of the Greater The Hague urban area; it is about 12 km east of The Hague, 15 km north of Rotterdam and 12 km south of Leiden.
