Stoczniowiec Gdańsk (sports Club)
Stoczniowiec Gdańsk is an ice hockey team based in Gdańsk, Poland. The team currently plays in the 1. Liga, but has formerly spent 30 seasons playing in the Polska Hokej Liga, the top-level ice hockey league in Poland, with their highest finish of third place being achieved in 2003. History The club was founded in 1953 by a group of workers from the Northern Shipyard as part of a bigger sports club. Initially the club used the name Polonia Gdańsk. They changed their name to Stoczniowiec Gdańsk in 1970 when the club officially became part of the newly created multi-sports club Stoczniowiec Gdańsk. In 1972 the club moved to their new home, Hala Olivia after the completion of the stadiums construction, and Stoczniowiec saw themselves playing in the Ekstraklasa for the first time. In 2003 the club had its greatest success when it finished third in the league. Hala Olivia
Hala Olivia is an arena in Gdańsk, Poland. It was designed by Maciej Gintowt and Maciej Krasinski. Building was started on 1965, and it opened on December 16, 1972. It is primarily used for ice hockey and is the home of Stoczniowiec Gdansk. The basketball club Prokom Gdynia also used the facility for home Euroleague fixtures. Hala Olivia opened in 1970 and holds 5,500 people. In September 1981, the first Congress of the Solidarity was held here. 865 delegate attended the sessions. The buildings exterior was completely renovated in 2016. Renovations on the interior are ongoing. This is one of the few remaining sports arenas left of this particular socialist modernism style otherwise called Brutalism. The Polska Hokej Liga is the premier ice hockey league in Poland. Previously, it was known as the I Liga or Ekstraklasa from 1926 to 1999, and the Polska Liga Hokejowa from 1999 to 2013. In 2013, it was reorganized as a limited liability company and renamed the Polska Hokej Liga. It follows a system of relegation to and promotion to/from the Polish 1. Liga. Pomeranian Hockey Club 2014 was a professional ice hockey team in Gdańsk, Poland. The team formerly played in the Polska Hokej Liga, the top-level ice hockey league in Poland, with their highest finish being 5th place, which they achieved in their final year of competing. History The Pomeranian Hockey Club was set up in 2014 with the intentions of keeping an ice hockey club in the city of Gdańsk after Stoczniowiec Gdańsk dissolved in 2012. While Hockey Club Gdańsk was formed in 2012, agreeing to take on Stoczniowiec's debt, and meaning that by the time the club was formed there was already another ice hockey team in the city, the members continued to push on creating the team anyway. In the clubs first season they sponsored by MH Automatyka, and decided to use the name Stoczniowiec due to the traditions of the name and ice hockey in the city. Baltic Cup (ice Hockey)
The Baltic Cup was an ice hockey tournament held during 2004–05 season. The three Baltic nations, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, participated, and Poland also sent a team. There were four rounds of the tournament, one in each country. 2004–05 season Four three-day tournaments were staged between August 27, 2004 and February 7, 2005, so that each of the four participants were able to host a tournament. The tournaments were held in the Estonian capital of Tallinn from August 27–29, 2004, the Lithuanian city of Elektrenai from November 5–7, 2004, the Polish city of Gdańsk from December 17–19, 2004, and the Latvian city of Ogre from February 5–7, 2005.
